Introduction
Located on the Bluff City Historic Loop, Calf Canyon Inn is a new pioneer-style home constructed over the foundation of the 1880's Hunt House, of which only one sandstone block room remains.
A substantial continental-type breakfast is served between 7 and 8:30 a.m. in the dining area or on the shade-covered patio, and features freshly ground coffee, brewed tea and seasonal fruits as well as egg dishes (omelets, scrambled or hard boiled) along with toast and jams. Waffles and/or pancakes may also be served. Guests can relax and mingle in the living room, surrounded by Southwestern books, maps and artwork.
Desert mesas, foothill forests and intimate, hidden canyons surround Bluff. The thousands of archaeological sites that pepper the entire area of the Four Corners add a challenging intellectual aspect to this dramatic part of the Southwest that still conjures images of the old Wild West. The jewel of it all, the great Navajo Reservation, lies just south across the San Juan River from Bluff and runs further south into Arizona.
With a current population of about 300, Bluff residents offer the visitor a choice of restaurants and some outstanding trading posts and art galleries. Several wilderness guides/outfitters make Bluff the jump-off point for raft or kayak adventures down the San Juan River or deep into the backcountry in 4WD vehicles and/or on foot--with llamas as pack animals, if desired.
Each bedroom has big, old-style double-hung windows looking out two sides, private full baths,
and ceiling fans. Navajo rugs and artwork complement views of the bluffs.
