    The Parlor

The stone carriage house was originally the stable for the mansion. It was built to accommodate four carriages, four horse stalls, a tack room, hayloft, and a groom's room which housed the groom and butler. There was also an area on the main level in which horses were hitched, unhitched and washed. When automobiles came on the scene the north door, on the House Street side, was widened and a mechanic's pit was added. In 1934 the YWCA installed a dance floor and stage. Later, storage was added in the back of the building, along with a small kitchen, bath and dressing room behind the stage. During that period it was known as the "Y Playhouse" and was used by many community groups for dances, classes, meetings, church services and other events. Behind the carriage house is the original stone smoke house.

The mansion has eleven guest rooms and one suite. Each has its own bathroom. Six of the rooms are located in the main house and six are located in the carriage house, which is now connected to the main house. The third floor tower room (in the main house), the snuggery and the balcony are available for guest use, as is the workout room on the garden level. Public areas of the home include the parlor, sitting room, dining room and library as well as three conference rooms on the garden level. The grounds include a hot tub room, patio, fountain, and gardens.

Live the life of a cattle baron. Make yourself at home in the Mansion's numerous public areas. A beautiful grand piano is the focal point in the Sitting Room. Sage green and white floral wallpaper gracefully compliments the inlaid wood floor Upholstered chairs and beautiful wood table create quaint conversation groups within the room. Perfect for entertaining guests or an intimate change with friends. Volumes of antique books line the walls in the library adjoining the Sitting Room. Burgundy wallpaper with soft stripes is a nice match to the inlaid wood floor. You can spread out work on the large library table or the soft comfortable chairs allow you to curl up in front of the fireplace for an evening meal.

Just inside the front door with plenty of windows and a beautifully stenciled ceiling, the Parlor is just the place for a social gathering. Whether two or 10, this large room has all the comforts you'd expect ... antique sofa and chairs, and a beautiful area rug. A cast brass fireplace adds both warmth and elegance to the room. The dining room is the picture of elegance with its rich golden wallpaper with complimentary wainscoting that provides a classic background for breakfast, teas or dinners. Stained glass windows create a festive, yet warm, atmosphere as rich gold and red tones shimmer through with Cheyenne's frequent sunlight.

Feel like royalty when you view Cheyenne from the tower on the third floor. Set up as a plush, luxurious reading room, you may find yourself totally distracted from even the most interesting novel by the beauty surrounding you. Sturdy rattan furniture adds a garden-like elegance to the room. Five softly draped windows allow you to control the lighting. A separate door to the balcony allows you a great view of the stars at night!

Almost as luxurious as our rooms, the stairwell that takes you from the main floor to the second and third floors is a treat in itself. Rich cherry woods with hand crafted art and European bronzes encased in them give antique lovers a real treat. In addition, rich carpeting and beautiful stained glass make each trip upstairs a true treasure. Always open, the butler's pantry is perfect for late night raids on the cookie jar or a cup of tea or coffee. A fully stocked refrigerator also gives you the choice of juice or pop throughout the day, and well into the evening!
