The B&B is only minutes away from Civil War landmarks such as Antietam Battlefield and Harpers Ferry and outdoor activities like hiking on the Appalachian Trail, biking on the C&O Canal Path or water fun on the Potomac River. Come for any of the many fairs and festivals in the area, like the Contemporary American Theatre Festival or the Mountain Heritage Arts & Crafts Festival. Our homemade full breakfast will start you on a fabulous day of fun in the Shepherdstown, WV area.

PLEASE NOTE: televisions and telephones are not provided in the guest roomsThe Inn is furnished comfortably with appointments appropriate for the age and architecture of the house. Our spacious living room on the first floor welcomes you with several seating areas, an inviting gas fireplace, television and DVD/VCR, videos, and a game table. An electric kettle and a fine selection of tea, coffee, cider, and hot chocolate are always available on the living room buffet. The buffet is also where you can find a selection of snacks and cookies every afternoon. For those of you who travel with your laptops, we have a secure wireless network in the Inn. We enjoy central air-conditioning in the warm weather.
Our second-floor guest library is equipped with a computer, phone, refrigerator, ice maker, Shenandoah Springs water dispenser and an extensive library of books and magazines. From the library, you can access the second-floor porch nestled in the evergreens and overlooking the garden. Relaxation is almost instant here when you stretch out in our of our rocking chairs with a good book. There are also several seating areas in our back garden for use in good weather.

As part of the hospitality at the Thomas Shepherd Inn B&B in Shepherdstown, WV, we are pleased to offer you a full breakfast in the morning along with beverages and our signature spice biscotti for early risers. Our full breakfasts consist of a fruit course, an entree with breakfast meat, and baked goods and are 'cook's choice'; we don't have a buffet or 'cooked to order' menu options.
To help us prepare a breakfast you will enjoy, please tell us when booking of ANY dietary restrictions you may have. Many of our breakfasts are casserole-style creations that cannot be changed before serving but can be adapted if we know of any problems before your arrival! Dietary restrictions include things like no sugar, allergies to wheat, eggs or dairy, religious
restrictions on pork and shellfish, no meat for vegetarians, etc. We do our best to prepare a delicious breakfast for all of our guests. There are times, however, when we cannot meet all dietary restrictions - in that case, we have cereal, homemade low-fat, low-sugar granola and yogurt available for you.

Guests have recently enjoyed homemade sticky buns and hot apple soup with a southwest potato strata and local sausage patties; another morning's menu consisted of banana-walnut muffins and fresh fruit with lime-ginger syrup with blueberry-pecan French toast and crisp local bacon.
Our breakfasts are typically served at large tables in two dining rooms (each seats six guests) from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. but if your schedule requires special arrangements please let us know and we'll do our best to work with you. Make a left turn out of the visitor's center onto MD-65 south towards Sharpsburg.
After about 1 mile turn right at a stop sign onto MD-34 west (Main St. in Sharpsburg). There will be a sign for Shepherdstown.
After about 3.5 miles you will cross the bridge over the Potomac river and the road becomes WV-480 south (Duke St. in Shepherdstown).
After about 0.5 miles you will come to a 4-way stop intersection and the inn will be across the intersection, on the corner, to your right. Drive thru the intersection and park either on the right side of the street next to the inn or in the gravel lot at the rear of the inn's yard.
The trip is about 5 miles and should take about 10 minutes.
Directions from Frederick, MD
Take US-340 west towards Harpers Ferry.
After about 22 miles, turn right onto WV-230 north towards Shepherdstown.
Stay on 230 for about 10 miles until it ends in Shepherdstown at the intersection of German and Duke Streets. You will be at a 4-way stop intersection and the inn will be across the intersection, on the corner, to your left. Make a left turn onto Duke Street and park either on the right side of the street next to the inn or in the gravel lot at the rear of the inn's yard.
The trip is a little over 30 miles and should take about 45 minutes.
Directions from Hagerstown, MD
Take MD-65 south towards Sharpsburg.
After about 13 miles turn right ata stop sign onto MD-34 west (Main St. in Sharpsburg).
After about 3.5 miles you will cross the bridge over the Potomac river and the road becomes WV-480 south (Duke St. in Shepherdstown).
After about 0.5 miles you will come to a 4-way stop intersection and the inn will be across the intersection, on the corner, to your right. Drive thru the intersection and park either on the right side of the street next to the inn or in the gravel lot at the rear of the inn's yard.
The trip is about 17 miles and should take about 30 minutes.
Directions from Harpers Ferry, WV
From the visitor's center take US-340 south toward Charles Town.
After about 1 mile, turn right onto WV-230 north towards Shepherdstown.
Stay on 230 for about 10 miles until it ends in Shepherdstown at the intersection of German and Duke Streets. You will be at a 4-way stop intersection and the inn will be across the intersection, on the corner, to your left. Make a left turn onto Duke Street and park either on the right side of the street next to the inn or in the gravel lot at the rear of the inn's yard.
The trip is a little over 10 miles and should take about 20 minutes.
Directions from I81
From I-81 in West Virginia take exit #16 onto WV-9 east.
After about 2 miles, make a left turn onto WV-45 east towards Shepherdstown.
After about 8.5 miles WV-45 ends in Shepherdstown at the intersection of German and Duke Streets. You will be at a 4-way stop intersection and the inn is located on the corner immediately to your right. Make a right turn onto Duke Street and park either on the right side of the street next to the inn or in the gravel lot at the rear of the inn's yard.
Directions from the Baltimore Area
From the I-695 beltway, take the I-70 west exit (exit # 16) towards Frederick.
After about 40 miles, take the US-340 west exit (exit # 52) towards Harpers Ferry.
After about 21 miles, turn right onto WV-230 north.
Stay on 230 for about 10 miles until it ends in Shepherdstown at the intersection of German and Duke Streets. You will be at a 4-way stop intersection and the inn will be across the intersection, on the corner, to your left. Make a left turn onto Duke Street and park either on the right side of the street next to the inn or in the gravel lot at the rear of the inn's yard.
From the I-695 beltway the trip is a little over 70 miles and should take about 1.5 hours.
Directions from BWI Airport
From the airport take I-195 west.
After less than 2 miles, take the MD-295 south exit (exit #2B) towards Washington.
After less than 3 miles, take the MD-100 west exit.
After about 8 miles, take the US-29 north exit towards I-70.
After about 3 miles, take the I-70 west exit towards Frederick.
After about 35 miles, take the US-340 west exit (exit # 52) towards Harpers Ferry.
After about 21 miles, turn right onto WV-230 north.
Stay on 230 for about 10 miles until it ends in Shepherdstown at the intersection of German and Duke Streets. You will be at a 4-way stop intersection and the inn will be across the intersection, on the corner, to your left. From the Dulles Airport access road take the VA-267 toll west towards Leesburg.
After about 12 miles, take the VA-7 west exit (# 1A) towards Leesburg.

After about 15 miles, turn left onto WV-230 north.
Stay on 230 for about 10 miles until it ends in Shepherdstown at the intersection of German and Duke Streets. You will be at a 4-way stop intersection and the inn will be across the intersection, on the corner, to your left. From the I-495 beltway take I-270 north towards Frederick.
After about 32 miles, I-270 intersects I-70 west.
After about 1 mile, take the US-340 west exit towards Harpers Ferry.
After about 22 miles, turn right onto WV-230 north towards Shepherdstown.
Stay on 230 for about 10 miles until it ends in Shepherdstown at the intersection of German and Duke Streets. Get onto I-70 east. I-70 intersects the PA turnpike and also I-68.
At the intersection I-70 and I-81 in Maryland, take I-81 south.
From I-81 take exit # 12 in West Virginia onto WV-9 east.
After about 2 miles, make a left turn onto WV-45 east towards Shepherdstown.
After about 8.5 miles WV-45 ends in Shepherdstown at the intersection of German and Duke Streets. You will be at a 4-way stop intersection and the inn is located on the corner immediately to your right. Get onto I-81 north. From the west or the southeast you can take I-64 to its intersection with I-81 in Virginia.
Take I-81 north into West Virginia.
From I-81 take exit #16 onto WV-9 east.
After about 2 miles, make a right turn onto WV-45 east towards Shepherdstown.
After about 8.5 miles WV-45 ends in Shepherdstown at the intersection of German and Duke Streets. If you're in search of adventures or activities, Shepherdstown, WV offers a wealth of options.
- Movies, live music and/or theater can be enjoyed most nights of the week in and around Shepherdstown. Appalachian and heritage music happen in jam-session fashion at O'Hurley's General Store every Thursday evening, and the Blue Moon Cafe features live music most weekend nights. Shaharazade's has monthly Middle-Eastern music and belly dancing dinners. The Opera House brings independent movies and foreign films to Shepherdstown every weekend. Community theater performances can be seen at the Full Circle Theater Company, the Old Opera House in Charles Town, and the Apollo Theater in Martinsburg.

The excitement of horse racing and casino-style gambling is 15 minutes away at the Hollywood Casino at Charles Town Races and Slots. Table games with poker and blackjack have just opened in Charles Town, WV. - In addition to the everyday activities available here, Shepherdstown is the site of several festivals. The renowned Contemporary American Theater Festival brings new American plays performed in repertory in July. Juried arts and crafts, along with West Virginia foods, are showcased at the Mountain Heritage Arts & Crafts Festival in June and September. Christmas, the Fourth of July, Easter and May Day bring parades and celebrations to the streets and parks of Shepherdstown.
- The Shepherdstown area has many sites that played important roles in colonial and civil war era history. Antietam Battlefield, near the small town of Sharpsburg, MD, and Harpers Ferry, WV are only minutes away. Gettysburg, PA is just over an hour's drive away. The Washington family (including George) left many footprints in the Shepherdstown area.
- If you enjoy outdoor activities we are just minutes away from hiking, biking, rafting, tubing, kayaking, golfing, and horseback riding. The C&O Canal Path lies just on the other side of the Potomac River from Shepherdstown and the Appalachian Trail winds near Harpers Ferry about 15 minutes away. Several outfitters near Harpers Ferry offer various levels of raft, bicycle, tube and kayak trips. Add a few golf courses and horseback riding, and you can spend several days challenging yourself in the great outdoors while recuperating at the Inn.
- There are many shopping opportunities in and around Shepherdstown. Boutique locally-owned shops lining German Street purvey wines, American-made artisan crafts, bespoke jewelry and French-inspired decor. The Sweet Shop and our Sunday Farmers Market lets you bring a little taste of Shepherdstown home with you.
- Spa and wellness services can be arranged at the Inn and are available at other locations around Shepherdstown. In-room massages are available in some of the larger guest rooms, and facials, manicures and other beauty services are available along German and Princess Streets. In addition, you'll find reiki, yoga, acupuncture and other wellness practicioners in Shepherdstown and the surrounding area.
- Several wineries offering tours and tastings are within a short drive from Shepherdstown. Most of the vineyards are located in Northern Virginia, just across the Virginia border from Harpers Ferry, near the small towns of Hillsboro, VA and Leesburg, VA.
