Birdwatching in Canaan Valley
Available dates:
Bird watching in the Canaan area is outstanding in every season. The inn is only minutes away from prime birding at Canaan, Blackwater Falls, the Canaan Valley National Wildlife Refuge and the Dolly Sods Wilderness area. Canaan's farmland, meadows, pines and deciduous trees provide a variety of bird watching habitats, producing Bobolinks, thrusheds, vireos, and warblers. Blackwater Falls and Cathedral State Parks provide beautiful backdrops for viewing Yellow-billed Cuckoos, Eastern Wood-Pewees, and Blackburnian and Black-throated Blue Warblers. Dolly Sods Recreation Area is a grassy, tundra-like habitat with both wet and dry areas. In the fall, it hosts songbirdbanding and hawk-watch programs. Our 2-night bird watching package includes two nights lodging at the inn, full breakfast daily, one box lunch and a copy of the outstanding (and waterproof) Canaan Valley Adventure Map, with marked trails for exploring the area. Cost: $89 per person (double occupancy); $135 per person (single occupancy)-
