Travelers are always looking for memorable and relaxing experiences. Let’s discover more through the words of our innkeepers. Many thanks to Ed and Carol Fischer for sharing their own secrets with BBOnline.com! Why do most travelers stay at your inn?
Looking for a secluded getaway in the mountains.
What are you best known for?
Great food, bottomless cookie jar, beautiful view, quiet seclusion, dark night sky for star gazing, warm hospitality.
What makes your inn unique?
We are in a remote location, but provide services and food so guests can enjoy their visit without having to travel once they are at the Inn, unless they choose to. Great location for access to hiking from the Inn or other hiking locations nearby.
What do you love most about your inn?
My favorite is the view from the front porch of the Inn. We have a view of Smoke Hole Canyon that includes 5 mountains. When it rains, there are clouds that form in the valley that look like smoke rising. It is so beautiful as the clouds dance around on the side of the mountains.
If someone has never been to your city, what is the #1 reason to come visit?
Great outdoor activities: hiking, fishing, horseback riding, caving, rock climbing, zip lining.
What’s the best compliment you have ever received about the inn?
We have received many nice compliments, but the one that touched me the most was a guest who said: “I don’t know how much time, money, and effort went into you having this Inn, but it’s all been worth it just for the time I have been able to spend here”.
What’s the best kept secret about the area?
Beautiful mountain views and spectacular drives (especially in the autumn), but without the crowds in other areas.
If a traveler is staying at your inn for 4 nights, what should he/she do in the area?
Hike the North Fork Mountain Trail from the Inn, Rock Climbing and Zip Line at Nelson Rocks Preserve, Driving tour to Spruce Knob (highest point in the state) and Blackwater Falls, Horseback ride up Seneca Rocks, Fish for Trout in the South Branch of the Potomac, Hike in Dolly Sods Wilderness area.
Is there anything within walking distance of your inn?
We are surrounded on two sides by the Monongahela National Forest so hiking trails are available from the Inn.
What is your favorite restaurant/food in the area?
My favorite is Lidia’s Mexican restaurant in Petersburg. Great quality ingredients and friendly service.
Any good area guides/websites that travelers could reference?
There is a hiking guide to the Monongahela National Forest which is very helpful for those trying to decide on which hikes. We have the guide available at the Inn or can probably get online at the national forest service. Here is a link to the forest service website: http://www.fs.usda.gov/recarea/mnf/recreation/hiking/recarea/?recid=9916&actid=50
How many rooms does your inn have?
We have 7 rooms in the main 3 story Inn, 2 suites in a separate cabin and one stand alone cabin.
Do you accept pets?
We do allow pets in our Hideaway Cabin.
