Donna J. McNeil, photographerCome relax at this restored Victorian located in a small college town. Sit on the porch swing & rockers long enough to hear the train whistle from across the river & the chimes from the chapel at West Virginia Wesleyan College. Stroll the 4 acres that are designated a Backyard Wildlife Habitat by the National Wildlife Federation.
The spacious house has its original floors and woodwork, as well as large pocket doors, and hot water registers that provide heat throughout. It has been restored in keeping with its history and with attention to detail, while decorating it with a harmonious mix of antiques and comfortable furnishings for a relaxed feeling. Three air conditioned bedrooms are available; one has a queen bed and a twin bed, and each of the other two has a full bed. Bathrooms include a large antique bathroom with original fixtures including a skirted soaking tub, and a second bathroom with a shower. The home is extremely clean and well maintained.

Smoke FreeThe stairwell displays a gallery of quilts machine-pieced and hand-quilted by your hostess, Linda. Still others are found on walls throughout the house. If you are a quilter, you are invited to bring your projects along. Large, braided wool rugs, also handmade by Linda, are used in three of the downstairs rooms and in one bedroom. Full breakfasts are served with guests’ schedules in mind. Typical breakfasts include various egg dishes with homemade breads, or Belgian waffles, or even one of 6-8 different kinds of pancakes. All include breakfast meats, fruits, juices, and coffee or tea. Breads are the specialty and one guest recently claimed, “The bread alone is worth the trip.â€
