  • Introduction

The Iris Inn located in the Shenandoah Valley, Blue Ridge Mountains
Guests Voted Iris Inn 2010 Best Of The Mid-Atlantic

Dave and Heidi Lanford welcome you to The Iris Inn Bed & Breakfast. Relax, refresh, and renew yourself in a modern 1991 purpose built retreat overlooking the Shenandoah Valley from a 12 acre Blue Ridge mountaintop.

Enjoy wine tasting at 28 vineyards within 30 minutes of the Iris Inn. Visit 4 President's homes. Only 3 miles to Skyline Drive and Blue Ridge Parkway! After enjoying area attractions, return to the Inn for a complimentary evening wine tasting. Partake from the "bottomless" cookie jar. Enjoy a couple's massage in your suite. Celebrate your anniversary or birthday with in room champagne and chocolate covered strawberries. Soak your cares away in a double person Jacuzzi tub or an outdoor hot tub.

Great Room Carefully conceived and built to bring people and nature together---and respectful of the needs of both---the Iris Inn hearkens back to simpler times when the gathering of family and friends constitutes an event. The Great Room offers such a gathering place. The room features a 3-story stone fireplace and an expansive hand painted Shenandoah Woodlands canvas by Clara Thompson. French doors lead to the back deck where you can watch the birds feeding as the squirrels and chipmunk scamper by.

Overlooking the Great Room is a loft library where you can get to know the season's bestseller or play a favorite game. The Iris Inn is a world away, yet minutes from the cultural hub of Charlottesville. The Iris Inn Bed & Breakfast is nestled on 12 wooded acres, on the west side of the Blue Ridge Mountains, overlooking the Shenandoah Valley. All rooms have private access to outdoor decks with plenty of seating to enjoy the scenery, read a book or take a snooze.

The Perfect Place For Your Morning Coffee

Travel and Leisure Magazine rated Virginia as "one of five up-and-coming wine destinations in the world." Wind your way through Virginia's countryside with 28 wineries within 30 minutes of your base at the Iris Inn. One of these thirteen wineries, King Family Vineyard, was recently featured by Wine Business Monthly, as among the "Hottest Small Brands." Among the ten brands listed, not only was King Family the only Virginia mention, it was the only winery on the East Coast named!

The next morning, awake refreshed to early coffee and hot tea service. See if you can name the birds that gather round the feeders on the back porch. Are there deer or chipmunks out this morning? Play catch with our in-house border collie, Katie. Just don't say "tail", you will wake up the entire house! Between 8 and 9:30 a.m. enjoy a full service exceptional breakfast by the crackling fire of the 28 foot great room. Depart rejuvenated and renewed with memories you can share with loved ones for days to come. In room massage and WiFi available.
