Tonight, November 16, and every night until January 1 the Boardwalk Light Show will be open from 5:30 PM until 10:00 PM (Sun-Thurs) or 11:00 PM (Fri Sat and Holidays). The Boardwalk will be closed to pedestrian traffic and cars may drive on the Boardwalk and through the Holiday Lights from 2nd to 34th Streets. The charge is $10.00 per car during the week and $15.00 on holidays and weekends. A CD of holiday music is provided and coupons from sponsor, McDonald's add extra values to this charitable event (proceeds go to Ronald McDonald House Charities Norfolk) Stay at Barclay Cottage Bed and Breakfast and we'll give you tickets.

We came through Sandy just fine! Never lost power except for a few flickers of the lights. Only wind damage was to our trees and garden. Lots of sticks and leaves in the yard and all around the house. Rain caused some minor flooding, in the usual places on the streets but, except for some water in the garages, we weren't affected. BLUE MOON WICKED 10K this weekend, Oct 27. Race for Team LiveStrong and our own local charity organization The Noblemen.
Race in costume or not - but there will be costume judging and prizes at the start and finish of the race. Race packet pick up Friday 10/26 until 8:00 pm and race start is at 8:00 am Saturday. Post race party - BEER by Blue Moon and CHILI by Bakers' Crust.

GLUG GLUG - DOWN THE HATCH!The Craft Beer Festival will be at the 24th Street Park on the Boardwalk Saturday and Sunday. Twenty-five craft beer brewers will be plying their wares and providing samples of their products from 1:00 to 6:00 pm each day.
Entertainment on Saturday will be provided by Seth Stainback (Carolina Country/Blues) and on Sunday by the Fighting Jamesons (Celtic Rock). Come stay at Barclay Cottage Bed and Breakfast and join us for a tasty weekend on the Boardwalk!

Now that summer is over, what is there to do in Virginia Beach?Let's take a look at the Weekend of Sept 14-16 for some ideas:
Mediterranean Weekend comes to the Virginia Beach Oceanfront September 14 - 16 2012 at the 17th Street and 24th Street Parks on the Boardwalk. Singing, dancing, food and drink - a celebration of the best of Italy and Greece.
Naval Air Station Oceana Air Show also September 14-16. Special Twilight show kicks off the weekend at 5:30 on Friday night with most of the activities taking place during the day Saturday and Sunday and a Saturday night Super Hornet afterburner flyby at 31st St Park where parachutists will arrive with burning torches and the Blue Angels pilots and support team will be introduced on the stage and mingle with guests.
Here's the Black Diamond Civilian Aerobatic Team which flys L-39s and MIG-17s, in their formations.
2012 North American Sea Glass Festival will be held at the Virginia Beach Convention Center over the same weekend Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Many amateur and commercial members of the North American Sea Glass Association (who knew?) will be exhibiting beautiful and unusual examples of sea glass both genuine and artificial, loose and crafted into amazing jewelry and products.
16th Annual Neptune Fall Wine Festival featuring over 15 Virginia wineries will be open for tastings from Noon to 5:00 pm Saturday and Sunday at the 31st Street Park

As we got closer to August 16 (our anniversary) I kiddedMarie-Louise that her "Annual Review" was approaching. Whenever guests complimented her cooking or gardening I was sure to point out that I would note her "record" as her "Annual Review" was fast approaching.
Well, I must have seemed a stern taskmaster, as some wonderful guests wanted to be sure that I treated Marie-Louise fairly during her "Employment Evaluation", and left this review behind when they checked out!

100 years of Virginia Beach Surfing will be celebrated at the 24th Street Park and the Coast Guard Life Saving Museum where there will be exhibits of surfing memorabilia, a gathering of Surfing Greats, demonstrations, surf art expo, surf shop sales, and a BEACH BOYS TRIBUTE BAND that will play at 7:30. Come enjoy the fun!

FIND OUT WHAT WE HAD FOR BREAKFAST TODAY!Everyone thoroughly enjoyed today's breakfast festival of flavors...favorite recipes that we happily share with our guests.
We started with homemade, fresh from the oven strawberry muffins...
Then we added fresh berries a la creme chantilly with cocoa topping.
The next course included a rolled cheese omelet with balsamic glaze accompanied by peppered buttermilk biscuits and corn fritters with maple syrup and bacon steaks, or for our vegetarian guests, soy bacon.
Orange juice, coffee, tea and hot chocolate are always served.
