Oak Grove Plantation Bed & Breakfast

The healthy air revives you as you approach Oak Grove down its sienna-colored lane, lined with loblolly pines. The air is alive with the sound of country.. .crickets, frogs, cicadas and birds. Visitors enjoy sipping cool lemonade and iced tea on the front porch on a lazy summer day.
That was the scene that greeted visitors to this antebellum home in the 1820s. Today, nearly 180 years later, the same family can welcome you with Southern hospitality this summer.

We are the only bed & breakfast in Virginia to have photovoltaic solar panels providing electricity to the house. We are environmentally conscious also by recycling, using clotheslines for drying, composting and using rain barrels.

The choice is yours. You can stay near the plantation house for wildflower walks, reading, birding, bike riding and hiking over 400 acres, a house tour, a neighborhood tour or a reiki session...
Or you can see the many sights of Southside Virginia...
Civil War battlefields
The last capital of the Confederacy in Danville
South Boston Museum
Auto racing
Minor league baseball
Prestwould Plantation
Antique shops
Sculpture garden
Golf
Buggs Island Lake
Hyco Lake for swimming and boating
And much, much more!
South Boston is 6 miles north; Durham 55 miles south; Danville 30 miles west; and Buggs Island Lake 30 miles west. Children especially like Oak Grove. Children love to climbs tree, hunt for frogs in the creek, swing on a tire and watch the train go by from the railroad bridge. There are legos on the sun porch, croquet, board games and our two resident standard poodles.

Our gourmet breakfast is served family style in the Victorian dining room, sun shining in through the bay windows. Entrees may include Cluster Spring egg puff, lemon souffle pancakes or other specialties, served with locally grown fruits, coffee, and homemade biscuits or muffins.

You can also play with them on-leash in the beautiful yards surrounding the plantation house.

Bicyclists will enjoy the lightly trafficked roads and gently rolling landscape near Oak Grove. Glide down the path from the inn to a beautiful journey of any length you desire. Ride for hours on country byways, stopping at a friendly general store for light refreshments and conversation. We'll provide maps and bicycles if you need them.
