Urban elegance- this is not your ordinary country style inn. We are located in the heart of downtown. Elegance is defined as the impressive beauty of form and appearance, incorporating charm, grace, and sophistication- thus urban elegance. Our goal from day one was to create an oasis for our guests, combining the convenience and vibrancy of a downtown location with fashionable comfort and style. Below are five ways our Roanoke bed and breakfast defines "urban elegance":
- There is so much to do- you are just a short walk to galleries, shops, museums, restaurants, theaters and even Roanoke's business community
- All of our rooms have ensuite baths, Scandia down bedding, coffee makers, and beautiful furnishings to pamper you during your stay- our rooms say "wow"
- In the morning you can breakfast by candlelight in the formal dining room or enjoy a cup of fresh brewed coffee while reading the paper in our comfortable kitchen setting
- Your innkeepers love to entertain and have fun, so each evening all guests are welcome to enjoy a glass of wine, a bit of bread, and some cheese with Keith and Cindy
- Weddings, anniversaries, college graduation, weekend escapes, Virginia Tech football, fall color along the Parkway, romantic interludes- whatever the occasion, The Inn will make it special

Our bed and breakfast was built circa 1904 and is a fine example of the renaissance style promoted by famed Venetian architect Andrea Palladio. The building was once home to the George T. Hitch jewelry store, whose hand painted sign remains visible on the left hand side of the third level. Local artist, Betty Branch, had her first art studio here and it was once a school for aspiring secretaries. The building sat derelict for years and was saved from the wrecking ball by a grant from the Virginia Department of Historic Resources. In 1991 the building was added to the Virginia Landmarks Register and the National Register of Historic Places.

Meet The Innkeepers
Keith and Cindy Hummer are first time Innkeepers who met a little over three years ago. On their first date they both expressed a desire to get into the hospitality business in some form or fashion. Ten weeks later they were married and soon purchased the three-story building on Campbell Avenue. A native of Roanoke, Cindy has the most hospitality experience, having worked for many years as head flight attendant and chef for Las Vegas hotelier Steve Wynn, on his private corporate jet. She performed marketing for the Riviera Hotel and established the concierge program at the Alexis Park. Cindy became the world's first female professional boxing judge and the first female boxing announcer for HBO sports- her boxing career lasted twenty years.
Today, Cindy runs her interior decorating firm, Nido Décor, which designed all of the rooms and furnishings for the Inn. Recently, she agreed to return ringside as a boxing judge here in Virginia. Keith grew up in Northern Virginia and was an advertising major at VCU in Richmond. Somehow he ended up in the construction business, earning four trade masters in plumbing, electrical, mechanical, and gas fitting along with a Class A building license, which he uses to renovate older buildings. He also works as a construction consultant providing project management, cost estimating, commissioning, and claims mediation services for commercial projects all over the country. Both Keith and Cindy love to cook, drink wine, entertain and meet new people… Innkeepers!!

Our Roanoke, Virginia attractions, such as weekend street festivals, al fresco dining, art galleries and music venues are abounding in our little town. Roanoke is one of the few cities in the country to have a mountain within its city limits and just for fun we topped it with the world's largest illuminated star which tagged us as "The Star City of the South". Named a "Great American Public Place" by the Lyndhurst Foundation, the Roanoke City Market – also commonly called the Farmers' Market, is a must see especially on Saturdays. Ask around and you might even find out why they used to call Roanoke "Big Lick".
