Spacious rooms in the main lodge are furnished in a Shaker-style tradition, and the common room is a wonderful gathering place for planning the day's activities. At the center of it all an attached glazed-tile silo has been renovated with a spiral staircase leading to three very private bedrooms-in-the-round. There’s even a “lookout†on top for expansive views of rolling meadows and rugged cliffs towering above the river.

The Walatoola and Uplands Cabins ~ $270: In 1992 our affair with reconstructing historic log cabins began. After a long search we found these 1850's cabins over in the neighboring Greenbrier River Valley. We numbered the logs, loaded them on a truck and spent the next year bringing them back to life here at Fort Lewis. These hand-hewn log cabins are best described as "one of a kind" and reflect the time honored skills of early settlers. Rich in history, cozy and comfortable the cabins await yet another generation of adventurous travelers. The Walatoola and Uplands Cabins are one bedroom cabins with private bath, fireplace, refrigerator, queen-size bed, and a sleep sofa if needed for an additional guest.

The Tall Timbers Cabin: The Tall Timbers Cabin is rustically elegant with a grand view of the Valley. Rustically elegant with a grand view of the valley. You'll experience the sense of frontier heritage that runs so rich and deep here in the mountains. A two story log cabin that puts you up in the balcony for that mountain view. A wood burning fireplace adds to the romantic bedroom ambiance. The wet bar and gathering place located on the first floor are perfect for socializing with friends or fellow guests. A daybed alcove, separate from the second floor bedroom, is appealing when traveling with an additional guest. The Tall Timbers Cabin has satellite TV.
John Lewis Cabin: Based on an early pencil sketch we have faithfully recreated a replica of the John Lewis house built in 1732. Lewis, an early pioneer of Scottish ancestry, is acknowledged as the founder of modern day Staunton, Virginia. "Take a step back and then a step forward" goes an early dance call. And, so goes a night in the John Lewis Cabin. Handsomely appointed rooms feature a large stone chimney for cozy wood fires, wireless internet, TV, refrigerator, a walk-in shower and, of course, a porch swing for sunset cocktails.

Among many of Fort Lewis's happy surprises is Riverside House, a short three minute drive away, on upper tract. Peaceful and secluded, it offers all of the amenities of the lodge with an added bonus, a picturesque view of the river and some of the finest fishing on the grounds. Hugged with porches, it has ample areas to enjoy the scenery or to just curl up with a good book. The spacious guest rooms are elegant and feature individual bathrooms. For the purist, spring water flows fresh from the tap.
