Travelers are always looking for memorable and relaxing experiences. Let’s discover more through the words of our innkeepers. Many thanks to Dennis & Janice Fitzgerald for sharing their own secrets with BBOnline.com! Why do most travelers stay at your inn?
Most come to stay with us for leisure. They are often from the DC Metro area and decide to come to the country for a couple days. Harrisonburg is no longer as rural as it used to be but it does still feel like an escape for those who live in the "city." There is so much to do in our area that it is easy to stay entertained but in the relaxed atmosphere of the Shenandoah Valley.
What are you best known for? What makes your inn unique? What do you love most about your inn?
Our inn is known for the privacy we offer. We strive to create an oasis for our guests. We make ourselves readily available without being seen or a bother. A unique thing we offer is breakfast delivered to your door each morning to enjoy in the privacy of your own suite or cottage. Guests enjoy not having to get up, get dressed and sit with other guests whom they do not know for breakfast.
If someone has never been to your city, what is the #1 reason to come visit?
To go up on Skyline Drive and see the colors in the Fall. We have plenty to do once you are here but often, that is what gets folks to our area. Harrisonburg has a plethora of restaurants worth trying, we have a new performing arts center on the campus of JMU and a rich civil war history and much, much more!
What’s the best compliment you have ever received about the inn?
We recently had a guest stay at our inn who had said they were giving up on B&Bs. They had had too many inconsistent experiences and felt more comfortable with the experience you get at a hotel. They decided to try a B&B one more time and stayed in our Mountain Laurel Suite located in our Spring Water Cottage. They loved it and said our B&B would be the only one where they'd come back. Repeat visitors are the highest compliment you can receive because it means you've done something right to get them back in your door again.
What’s the best kept secret about the area?
We have Parade magazine's second best caverns in the country, Grand Caverns. It is often overlooked because we are also in close proximity to Luray Caverns.
If a traveler is staying at your inn for 4 nights, what should he/she do in the area?
Skyline Drive, Massanutten Water Park, Antiquing, relaxing in our well-appointed suites or cottage, Civil war sites, farmers markets, hiking, caverns, biking and maybe even fishing. We have Mossy Creek within 15 minutes which is known for its fly fishing.
Is there anything within walking distance of your inn?
We are a mile and a half from Court Square in downtown Harrisonburg. We have had guests walk there before but more often than not, they drive. We have sidewalks that run the length of Garber's Church Road which is pleasant to take a stroll. Our inn is also situated on approximately 9 acres with some areas of the property suitable for a leisurely walk.
What is your favorite restaurant/food in the area?
We have been partnering with a new local Irish restaurant called Corgan's Publick House. They have wonderful food, service and atmosphere. A staple in our area is The Blue Stone Inn which has a long family owned history beginning back in 1949.
Any good area guides/websites that travelers could reference?
Our local tourism office has a great website with an event calendar and things to do. VisitShenandoah.com is also a helpful resource for our area.
How many rooms does your inn have?
We have 4 Suites in our Manor House, 3 Luxury Cottages and 2 Suites within one building called our Spring Water Cottage-- so, 9 rooms total.
Do you accept pets?
No, we don't accept pets. We do refer people to a local animal shelter if they want to bring their pet so it isn't far from them. Most opt to board their pets at home.
