Our largest room, the light and airy Alleghany is the second floor room of the original 1780 post-and-beam house. Recently updated with a king-sized bed and new bath, this remains the same large and comfortable room it was in 1935 when Eleanor Roosevelt stayed here while visiting the textile mill in Goshen. A 150 year-old boxwood in our shade garden and the old livery stable beyond are visible from the back window. Around the corner, a door affords access to the wrap-around verandah. A comfortable modern bathroom with a large whirpool tub/shower combination is entered via a unique pass-through closet arrangement. The Franklin room is named for FDR, who could not accompany his wife Eleanor when she visited, but sent a thank you note to the Teters for a desk basket they sent him. This room is a favorite with folks looking for a real VA Blue Ridge Mountain vacation, whether for hiking, fly fishing for trout, or just roaming about the beautiful Virginia countryside. And in good weather, with the windows open, guests can hear Mill Creek bubbling along by the deck next to the barn.

Set farther back from the front of the house than the other rooms, the Robinson offers separate access to the second floor veranda. The bedroom features a queen-size iron bed, comfortable wing chair with reading lamp, with a Victorian-style fireplace stove. The small, private, hallway adds additional and connects bedroom and bath. The well-appointed private bathroom boasts a roomy stall shower and brass and oak furnishings. Teter-Wood

Named for the family who expanded the Inn to its current size in 1853, the Teter-Wood room is on the first floor and was formerly the family library. Gracious in proportions, it features a cozy queen-size bed, comfortable seating and a bathroom with a ceramic tile shower.  A The Teter-Wood room may be entered from a private doorway on the side of the house, and has limited handicap access. It also has a private outside seating area adjacent to our shade garden and with a view of the back yard and the barn. Our only first-floor room, the Teter-Wood is appropriate as senior travel vacation accommodations. Its veranda gives it a private suite feel, a perfect Virginia retreat in Goshen.

    Reservations

    You can check availability and request a reservation online.

    Call us and we can answer any questions you might have, check to see if we have a room available, and make the reservation for you.

    Please have your credit card ready to guarantee the room.

    We will then send you a confirmation by email or regular mail, whichever you choose.

    Cancellations

    Cancellations must be made by telephone conversation with the innkeepers.

    A processing fee of $25 will be charged for all cancellations unless made within 24 hours of the time the reservation was confirmed.

    For cancellations received less than 14 days prior (30 days for holidays and special events), a charge, equivalent of one night's stay will be incurred.

    50% of which will be credited to a subsequent 2-day minimum reservation.

    Shortened stays and early check-outs will be responsible for the entire reservation.

    Guest Information

    Check-in time: 3:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m.

    Check-out time: 11:00 a.m.

    Payment in full becomes due upon the day of check-in. Refunds are not made for delayed check-in or early departure.

    The Hummingbird Inn accepts cash, personal checks, traveler's checks, VISA, MasterCard, Discover, Diners' Club and Amex credit cards.

    The Hummingbird Inn is a non-smoking establishment.

    Smoking is permitted anywhere outside, on the grounds, away from the building.

    Children

    The Hummingbird Inn is often a destination for couples wishing to get away for a celebration or a romantic weekend.

    In many cases they have left children at home with a sitter for their getaway.

    Although we are fond of children, we feel that as a courtesy to our guests, we can only welcome young people 12 and older who feel comfortable in a grown-up environment.

    Pets

    We are a pet-friendly lodging establishment.

    We try to be flexible, so please call us regarding your pet's suitability for staying here with you.

    Guests with pets are accommodated in the Teter-Wood room, a first floor room with direct outside access.

    We charge an additional $15 per night per pet.
