  • Insider's Info

Travelers are always looking for memorable and relaxing experiences. Let’s discover more through the words of our innkeepers. Many thanks to Bonnie & Jesse Lawrence for sharing their own secrets with BBOnline.com!
Why do most travelers stay at your inn?

Most folks say they stay with us as they have found our web site and it looks like a beautiful place to stay. When they get here, they tell us our website doesn't do us justice as our lodge and the views are more beautiful than any website can show. We tell them we like to surprise them.

What are you best known for? What makes your inn unique? What do you love most about your inn?

We are best known for our views, our large, beautiful suites. Every suite has it's own bath and the lodge is very large, 15,000 sq. ft., so it is very quiet. The weddings we have here are beautiful and our pavilion area is great for reunions and parties of any kind.

If someone has never been to your city, what is the #1 reason to come visit?

Our lodge overlooks the beautiful Blue Ridge Parkway, so that is great all by itself. Also, the town of Floyd, which is 20 minutes away is known for it's music, especially on Friday and Saturday evenings. Floyd has a couple of great restaurants that folks love to return to return to time and time again. Also, we are only 20 minutes from the city of Roanoke, Va. There are beautiful malls there and Art Museums, a transportation museum, a small zoo and lots of amazing restaurants and a visitors center in downtown Roanoke.

What’s the best compliment you have ever received about the inn?

Usually the best compliment is about our views. The photographers who come to do the weddings we have here say they don't have to do anything, the views do it all for them. Also, everyone talks about the cleanliness of the lodge.

What’s the best kept secret about the area?

The Blue Ridge Parkway - People haven't discovered the beauty of it enough. There are beautiful walking trails and overlooks all along the parkway and the parkway itself is so well kept. Every season is beautiful!

If a traveler is staying at your inn for 4 nights, what should he/she do in the area?

Definitely they should go into Floyd and enjoy the music and the amazing stores there. Spend a day on the Blue Ridge Parkway hiking, or even biking with a picnic lunch up to Mabry Mill, Ride up to Natural Bridge which is only a short distance up Interstate 81., The WWII Memorial in Bedford, Va. is a great day trip and it only takes about 40 minutes to get there and well worth the trip. We have several wineries in the area also that make for a great day trip. Lots of folks tell us they just want to spend a couple of days at our place either sitting on our decks, or in our sunrooms reading, or working puzzles and just relaxing and not going anywhere.

Is there anything within walking distance of your inn?

The Blue Ridge Parkway is within walking distance of our inn.

What is your favorite restaurant/food in the area?

One of our favorite restaurants in Floyd is Michaels, or the Pine Tavern. One of our favorite restaurants in Roanoke is Ragazzi's.

Any good area guides/websites that travelers could reference?

Travelers can reference the Chamber of Commerce in Floyd, VisitFloyd.org or Roanoke, Va.

How many rooms does your inn have?

We have 10 suites, all with their own bath. 6 suites are inside the lodge and 4 inside the cabin.

    Do you accept pets?

We are pet friendly as long as they are well trained. We normally like folks with pets to stay in the cabin suites as those suites have an enclosed porch which open to the yard which makes it easier for walking their pets.
