Why do most travelers stay at your inn?

Pond Mountain Inn is rapidly becoming a highly acclaimed boutique country inn and is the preferred choice in Vermont lodging for an overnight retreat, magnificent dinner parties, hosting intimate familyreunions, or an unforgettable dinner to celebrate your special occasion.

The unforgettable mountain views, fresh clean air and water combined with the solitude and serenity you will experience in the greenmountains of Vermont is Pond Mountain Inn.

What are you best known for? What makes your inn unique? What do you love most about your inn?

The décor at Pond Mountain reflects a New England country style, from the nicely appointed dining rooms with original oil paintings and antiques in the Main House to the spacious comfort of the Loft Apartment Suite and Garden Cottage. Enjoy our generous accommodations and marvel at the soaring, uninterrupted views from inside.

“We are deeply committed to delivering an unparalleled experience – breakfast and dinner is exquisite and we have spared no expense making your sleeping experience a dream come true.”
If someone has never been to your city, what is the #1 reason to come visit?

Some visitors are not quite able to put their finger initially on why Vermont is so delightfully different, then after a few days here the reasons gradually become apparent:

Pond Mountain Inn is close to Dorset and Manchester with an abundance of shopping and fine dining. Our favorite restaurants are below.

Over 125 Covered Bridges in Vermont and 10 within 45 minutes of the inn.

Eighty per cent of the state is tree covered, which means gorgeous views from most of our roads including the main highways.

Billboards along the roads are simply not allowed, resulting in dramatically improved sightlines.

With a population of only 600,000 it seems that everyone knows everyone else and are ready to provide knowledgeable information and referrals to our visitors.

It is the “greenest” state in the US with over eighty per cent of electricity coming from non-carbon
    sources.

What’s the best compliment you have ever received about the inn?

“Thanks to Glenn and Kay, we had a perfect surprise engagement weekend! The inn itself is superb-gorgeous views, clean and well decorated, off the beaten path just the right amount, but still close to great hiking, charming restaurants, and scenic driving. The apartment we stayed in was nicer than our own home!

My fiancé told Glenn and Kay he was planning to propose, and they cooked an amazing homemade dinner using all of my favorite foods, and set the whole thing up at a private table overlooking the mountains….

This was, without question, among the best vacation experiences of our lives, and we have done a lot of traveling. Glenn and Kay really go out of their way to make a unique and unforgettable experience, and the location and inn itself are just too good to be true. We can't wait to return!” A couple from Boston, Massachusetts.

What’s the best kept secret about the area?

The nearby towns are home to a vibrant cultural and artistic scene that rivals most small cities. It’s an active community, offering some of New England’s finest outdoor recreation. It’s a place to enjoy great local food, boasting numerous farms, restaurants, artisan food producers, and a nationally recognized farmer’s markets. And it’s a welcoming area, hosting delightful community events throughout the year.

The wider area hosts a full spectrum of visual and performing arts, world-renowned musicians, high quality theatre, and festivals. Don’t miss the Theater in Weston or Dorset!

If a traveler is staying at your inn for 4 nights, what should he/she do in the area?

Dorset Theatre Festival, a world class summer theatre festival produces 5 Main-stage plays each summerbetween June and September, and Weston Playhouse Theatre Company: Vermont’s oldest professional theatre offer exceptional theatre performances.

Merck Forest and Farmland Center (MFFC) is an educational nonprofit organization with a mission to teach and demonstrate innovative, sustainable management of forest and farmland. MFFC is composed of 3,162 acres and includes a 3,100 acre managed forest, certified-organic sugaring operation and a 62-acre farm. Enjoy a wonderful half-day experience for both children and adults.

Lake St Catherine Country Club is open to the public and is only minutes from the Inn. Established in 1925, “The Lake” began as a nine hole golf course.  In the mid 1990’s the course was expanded to 18 and measures 6200 yards. Given the elevation changes throughout the course, it may actually play closer to 6600 yards.

Lake St. Catherine State Park is located in Wells and Poultney is located five minutes from the inn that offers all the recreational family amenities found in much larger state parks, but without the crowds.

Vermont Covered Bridges are ubiquitous. There are more 125 covered bridges in Vermont and 10 within 45 minutes of the inn. There is an abundance of information and self-guided tours available.

Hildene, the Lincoln Family Home of Robert Todd Lincoln, the only child of Abraham and Mary Todd Lincoln to survive to adulthood, became Chairman of the Pullman Company, the largest manufacturing corporation at the turn of the 20th century. He built his Georgian Revival mansion in 1905 in the scenic village of Manchester.

Dorset Farmers Market (Sunday) offers wonderful Fresh Produce & Fruit, Pasture Raised Meat, Free Range Eggs, Award Winning Cheese & Wine, Fresh Baked Breads & Pastries, Specialty Jams & Preserves, Maple Syrup & Honey, An Array of Prepared Foods and Unique Artisan Wares.

Movie Theatre, watch a movie at the tiniest theatre in the United States in Poultney ten minutes north.

Is there anything within walking distance of your inn?

The short answer is no. However, Lake St. Catherine and the Lake St. Catherine Country Club (public) are three miles away on our country road and the Wells General Store is 2.5 miles in the opposite direction. Farms offering fresh eggs, milk, chicken and beef are near and local cheese artisans are only slightly farther.

Dorset, Vermont is a beautiful twenty minute drive; add another five minutes to Manchester where you’ll find wonderful shopping and fine dining.

  • About the Innkeepers

Pond Mountain Inn-InnkeepersYour hosts, Kay and Glenn Dunn, want your stay at Pond Mountain Inn to be a memorable, enriching experience. Since assuming ownership of this quintessential Vermont bed and breakfast in October 2013, they have made thoughtful changes that retain the tradition and character of this exact replica of a 1800s Eyebrow Cape. These thoughtful improvements enable them to satisfy their guests’ highest standards and to confirm their commitment to extraordinary service and accommodations not normally found outside Dorset or Manchester.

Worldwide travelers for the past twenty years, Kay and Glenn have accumulated over five thousand night stays in hotels spread across five continents. This experience has informed their understanding of the attentive service and distinctive amenities that produce positive customer experiences. Thus, they are dedicated to offering their guests the same kind of service and experience they expect. It is their wish that every guest feels at home from the first moment of arrival to the (hopefully regretful) time of departure.

Glenn and Kay have been happily married for sixteen years, having met on a flight from Manila to Narita, Japan in August 1996. Kay was a Bangkok-based flight attendant for Northwest Airlines, and Glenn worked as an expatriate living in the Philippines. Three months after their first encounter, they held their first date at Shangri-La Hotel’s Cheval Blanc Restaurant in Manila. They married in Bangkok, Thailand in 1998 at Kay's family residence and again in New Jersey, United States in 2000.

Your hosts are honored that you have considered their bed and breakfast, and they are firmly committed to creating a relaxing, comfortable stay for you and your family. Their home is truly your home!
