Travelers are always looking for memorable and relaxing experiences. Let’s discover more through the words of our innkeepers. Many thanks to Gary & Lori Helms for sharing their own secrets with BBOnline.com! Why do most travelers stay at your inn?
Really a mix of several reasons. We have a beautiful lake just down the road which draws in tourists. I get quite a bit of that overflow. People enjoy the mountains here at the inn and then get to enjoy the lake. I also get a lot of people coming out of the city looking for a quiet retreat in the mountains. I am best known for the great mountain view.
What are you best known for? What makes your inn unique? What do you love most about your inn?
What makes our inn unique is the diversity of accommodations. We have the two bedroom cottage off to itself, the Chalet apartment with the view and separate balcony entrance, and the rooms in the Main house which gives the true bed and breakfast experience. What I love most about my inn is the beautiful scenery, landscaping, and magical serenity that is here.
If someone has never been to your city, what is the #1 reason to come visit?
I suppose the #1 reason to visit my inn would be to relax, get away, and enjoy breakfast of your choice made to order.
What’s the best compliment you have ever received about the inn?
The best compliment we have ever received is that my husband and I are fantastic cooks and great hosts.
What’s the best kept secret about the area?
The best kept secret about the area is the Lake, State park and Golf and country club.
If a traveler is staying at your inn for 4 nights, what should he/she do in the area?
If someone is staying at our in for 4 days they should explore the area. There is great hiking just down the road and biking on the rail trail. Travelers should also eat at the Barn restaurant, shop in Manchester, check out the farmer's market in Dorset and Poultney, see a movie at the tiniest theatre in the US in Poultney, and see a play in Dorset. And of course, traveleres should spend some time on the lake, rent a canoe, kayak, or paddle boat or just lay in the sand and sun.
Is there anything within walking distance of your inn?
My inn is located 3 miles from the state park. We are on a quiet country road, so it is heavenly to walk down the road, but you would need a car to get to local attractions.
What is your favorite restaurant/food in the area?My favorite restaurant in the area is the Barn restaurant and the Iron Lantern. Any good area guides/websites that travelers could reference?
Some good area guides/websites travlers could use for reference would be the Vermont Chamber or Poultney Chamber website. Lake St. Catherine State Park has a great website also and I have several links on my website of things to do in the area.
How many rooms does your inn have?
I have 4 units at my inn. King and Queen room in the main house. The 1200 square foot Chalet apartment, and the 120 square foot Barn cottage.
Do you accept pets?
We do accept pets in the Cottage and the Chalet apartment.
