    Things to DO and SEE
    • Middlebury's central Vermont location makes it an easy drive to major attractions: the Shelburne Museum, New York's Fort Ticonderoga, Lake Champlain, and the ski slopes of Mount Mansfield.
    • There is also plenty to do right in the neighborhood. Middlebury is home to the Sheldon Museum, the oldest community museum in the country. Nearby is the Robert Frost Homestead, the famed Bread Loaf Writers' School and ski area, and the Middlebury College Museum of Art.

Today, our Vermont bed and breakfast inn, the Swift House, is a beautifully-appointed gathering place.
It is ideal for family dinners, reunions, holidays, weddings, retreats, or just a casual night out.

A meal at our Jessica's Restaurant is always memorable. The recently updated dining room is a reflection of the casual comfort and style of this New England country inn. Complement your stay with a great dinner. The delectable menu showcases traditional American favorite, hearty soups, light salads, a great burger or delicious entree's of duck, steak or scallops, maybe the chef's daily special and much of the food is supplied by local growers to ensure absolute freshness. As a proud member of the Vermont Fresh Network, our culinary team loves to serve what central Vermont has to offer. But it's not just the food, it's the alchemy of ambiance, doting staff, splendid surroundings, and an extensive wine cellar, recognized by the Wine Spectator Award of Excellence, that make The Swift House Inn a memorable experience. Chef Rob can tailor your meal to accommodate any dietary restrictions. The staff can help you select a perfect wine or micro brewed beer to accompany your dinner. The feel is casual, the food is exceptional! After dinner, relax next to the hearth, enjoy an after dinner drink in the lounge, or sit on the window-lined porch and watch the lights. Dinner is served Wednesday through Sunday from 5:30 to 9:00 P.M. From November through May, we serve dinner on Thursday through Sunday evenings. We will accommodate special parties any night.

A hearty breakfast, which is included in the room rate, is always a treat at the Inn. There are always several savory and sweet entrees that are prepared to your order. These are complemented by a cold buffet of fresh fruits, baked items, yogurts, cereals, and the Inn's own granola.

    The Main House

The Main House of our Middlebury, Vermont inn is the most historic of our accommodations. This Federal-style mansion with all the hospitable elegance you would expect in a governor's home - marble sinks, crystal doorknobs, push-button light switches, and a fascinating collection of nooks and crannies is the perfect alternative to hotel lodging. The Swift Room, once the master bedroom, still displays the old brass internal telephone that Mrs. Swift used in Woodrow Wilson's day. Other rooms in the Main House include the Addison, Battell, Clark, Emma Willard, Garden, Governor's, Seymour, and Stewart. Our inn is the only Middlebury accommodation that still includes a full breakfast with your room rate.

    The 1880 Carriage House

The adjacent 1880 Carriage House has been completely renovated into spacious and comfortable guest rooms perfect for a Vermont family vacation. The Carriage House rooms are popular with families because of their size and convenient appointments, including queen sleeper sofas, large sitting areas, and extra space for a rollaway. There's plenty of room for the kids to wander the three acres of lawns, and these rooms at the Inn are a pet-friendly alternative to hotel lodging. These rooms are also ideal for a romantic getaway with a king bed, two-person jetted tub, seasonal wood-burning fireplace, and all of the comforts of a private hideaway.
