    Winter is a wonderland, with the popular Nordic Ski & Snowshoe Center. One of the oldest in the United States, we offer 60 kilometers of trails (40km groomed) for classic and skate skiing, back country and snowshoeing for all levels.

    The winter fun does not stop there; The Mountain Top Inn & Resort has a variety of outdoor adventures to keep everyone happy regardless of age or ability Dog Sled Rides, Snowmobile Tours, Ice Skating (rentals available), Horse Drawn Sleigh Rides and Sledding Hill. Then after you have tried them all, relax with an invigorating massage or sip hot cocoa in the lobby by a roaring fire.

    The Equestrian Center comes alive in spring, summer and fall catering to the experienced horseman and the novice rider. Guests will enjoy guided trail rides on horseback with breathtaking views, lessons in English or Western, introduction to cross-country jumping and more. The Resort's private beach on the lake has kayaks, canoes, scenic pontoon boat rides and swimming. For the avid outdoorsman, clay bird shooting, hiking and mountain biking are all on site...as are tennis, croquet or strolling country roads...and many beautiful golf courses are within a short drive.

  • Equestrian Center

    Located on 350 beautiful acres, surrounded by thousands of acres of National Forest and overlooking a recreational mountain lake, The Mountain Top Inn & Resort is the perfect setting for a "Horseback Riding Vacation". One of the few resorts in the Northeast to offer horseback riding vacations, our custom tailored riding vacations can accommodate everyone from the never-ridden-before beginner to the more skilled horseman.

    Enjoy the spectacular property as you walk, trot or canter through serene mountain pastures, over miles of wooded trails, the flowering fields of spring and summer and the brilliant colors of autumn’s foliage

    Experienced rider or new in the saddle, our professional instructors will help you to improve your riding ability - English or Western - on your horse or one of ours. Serious riders can also take advantage of Jumping and Introduction to Cross Country Jumping instruction and clinics.


    We will help you to create a personalized riding vacation to suit your needs and ability level, making it as varied and intensive as desired to help you improve your riding and confidence. In addition to the Equestrian Center, the resort’s numerous facilities include tennis, swimming, boating, kayaking, canoeing, hiking, mountain biking, massage therapy, clay bird shooting, nearby golf…or just simply enjoying the breathtaking vistas from a comfortable chair.

    An ASTM approved helmet is required and available and smooth soled boots with a heel are recommended to ride at the Resort.

    Sundays in the Saddle Special --- One hour guided trail rides only $35 pp on Sunday. Reservations required. Space is limited.

    The Highlands Dining Room

    Our Highlands Dining Room offers sumptuous cuisine in the ambiance of a traditional Mountain Lodge. We have created a menu that will elevate the culinary and dining experience to a level of excellence...with innovative cuisine using fresh local ingredients, allowing the Chef to change the menu frequently.

    Our commitment to the membership in the Vermont Fresh Network ensures that we will utilize products from Vermont's working landscape. You can be assured that dining is an unforgettable experience with the Chef's attention to culinary detail.

    The Highlands Dining Room features custom designed fine china painted with pine boughs, Riedel crystal stemware, Scottish wool carpet and dramatic, oversized antler chandeliers. Vibrant wallpaper and paisley and animal print window treatments enhance the spectacular views of the surrounding Green Mountains and pristine lake. The Resort's Dining Room is perfect for a romantic candlelight dinner for two or an enjoyable dinner with the family.

    For traditional pub fare join us in the The Highlands Tavern. Enjoy a casual, friendly atmosphere and daily specials. We offer a full service bar with an extensive wine list, including Vermont wines; and a wide selection of beer and Vermont micro brews on tap and bottled.

    Play a game of pool, relax by the fire, or watch your favorite television show or sporting event.

    Seasonal outdoor seating is available on the Terrace, all with spectacular views.

Our event coordinators will assist with every detail from menu selection, room arrangements, center pieces, and linens to finding the appropriate music and audio visual equipment. The Resort's private, serene location is a world apart from the stress and hassles of everyday life and features elegant yet comfortable accommodations, distinctive fine dining, and abundant recreational activities for you and your guests to explore and enjoy.

  • Mountain Top Nordic Ski & Snowshoe Center

    SkiiersThe Mountain Top Nordic Ski & Snowshoe Center, one of the first commercial cross country ski touring centers in the East, has served the skiing public for over a quarter century. Located in a renovated horse stable, we pride ourselves on delivering some of the best cross country skiing on 60km of trails (40km groomed), with classical ski track and skating lanes. Our snowmaking system covers a 1.5km loop and our ski shop has the latest in ski and snowshoe rentals. The ski school is staffed with a friendly and knowledgeable staff of instructors for all skill levels. Our PistenBully groomer helps us to ensure that conditions are always perfect for our guests. Easy access to the Catamount Trail further extends the number of trails that you will enjoy. In addition we offer horse drawn sleigh rides, snowmobiles, ice skating, the best sledding hill around.

    After you've worked up an appetite on the trails, the Nordic Center offers hot drinks, lunches and a place to put your feet up with friends and family.     • Horse Drawn Sleigh Rides - (30 minutes) We ride with or without snow. Call for the schedule. $25 per person for 13 years and older. $15 per person for 4 - 12 years. (3 years and under ride for free.) Private rides available --- ask for details. Our Winter Special: Horse Drawn Sleigh Ride & Dinner Package (Not available holidays and peak dates.)
    • Dog Sled Rides - (30 minutes) Call for details and schedule. Must be 5 years of age. $75 per person for 13 years and older. $40 per person for 5 - 12 years old.
    • Guided Snowmobile Tours (30 minutes) - Adults $60 (second passenger $15). Must have a valid drivers license to drive. Must be 12 years of age to ride.
