Garden Room

The southwest light gives a special glow to the surroundings. The room features a mahogany queen four poster, fireplace, and large whirlpool. The colors here are mauve, lilac, and apricot, set off by an antique hand hooked rug.

A reproduction turn-of-the-century French wallpaper highlights birds and flowers, and grass paper trim are authentic to the house. Some of the furniture in this room is original to the house as well. Books for sale here are on gardening, horticulture, and bird watching

The Rose Room

The centerpiece of the main room is the elegant king sized canopy bed. If it is chilly, we'll light the fireplace, or you can enjoy the large whirlpool tub and separate spacious shower. The room is decorated in burgundy and plum for a relaxing mood, full of roses, set off by an antique Oriental rug which is one of our favorites.

The antique writing desk is a family piece, and the ladies' rocker is high Victorian, but low to the floor! The room has a lovely table and chairs for your relaxation.

Books for sale here include vintage and contemporary poetry. If two couples are traveling together, the room adjoins the Nursery. The two rooms share a bath, but the bath is never shared unless the parties are traveling together.

Nursery Room

Rudyard Kipling was a frequent guest of the Hall family, and the nursery features books by him.

A queen sized mahogany sleigh bed dominates the room, and books for sale here include children's selections from many generations.

Adorned with an antique children's school desk, and a few remnants of toys from other generations, the room will inspire the child in all of us.

What were your favorites when you were a child? Nancy Drew? Black Beauty? The Jungle Book perhaps...

Note: This room is only rented as part of a suite with the Rose Room, or with the Cook's Room using a shared bathroom.

TR Room

This room was the former master suite of the house and features a dressing room and spacious closet. Originally, there was an adjoining room to the bedroom of the lady of the house, as it was fashionable in Victorian times for the lady to have her own bedroom.

There is quite a bit of anecdotal evidence that Theodore Roosevelt slept here (although not in this room) when he traveled to Bellows Falls on a couple of occasions. Stewart grew up a stone's throw from Theodore Roosevelt's home on Long Island, and thus collecting his works and books about him became a life-long hobby.

The room features a queen sized canopy bed, fireplace, whirlpool tub, dressing room, and a lovely view of the sunrise over Fall Mountain if you are an early riser and the frequent fogs and mists behave.

As a bow to TR, we've a hunter's theme here (complete with animal skins), and wallpapered ceilings in reproduction Victorian papers. The colors are sage and rust as found in the antique Oriental rug which was our inspiration for the room.

Cook's Room

This room features a Queen sized antique brass bed, private bath with an antique ball-and-claw foot tub. Its west light makes it perfect for those who like to sleep in. It is also our most quiet room, set apart in the west wing. As one would imagine, books for sale here are cookbooks.
