Old Deseret Village/This is the Place Monument

The Old Deseret Village re-creates the pioneering atmosphere of early Salt Lake City. Wander the dirt roads side-by-side with pioneer men and women, and watch out for the horse drawn wagons! This is the Place Monument, located near the Village, commemorates Brigham Young's famous words as he and his wagon train entered Salt Lake Valley for the first time, "This is the right place." The Mormon pioneers continued on from this spot and settled the Great Salt Lake valley.

    The Great Salt Lake

The Great Salt Lake is the remains of pre-historic Lake Bonneville. One of the world's largest inland bodies of salt water, the Great Salt Lake is a beautiful place to swim, boat, or just enjoy the sunset. Antelope Island, accessible by car, is an animal preserve where you can enjoy antelopes and bisons in their natural habitat. Also located nearby are the famous Bonneville Salt Flats, well known among car racing aficionados.

    Gardner's Historic Village

Originally a grain mill, Gardner's Historic Village is now a collection of historic homes converted into quaint shops. Wander through the "lanes" and pick up hand-made lace and quilts, original paintings, old fashioned candy, victorian reproductions, and other items. The shops surround the old mill which now serves as a restaurant. A museum explaining the history of the mill sits at the center of the village.

Park City is a historic town set in the heart of the mountains, only a thirty minute drive from down town Salt Lake.
