With 1,100 acres of Texas Hill Country at your disposal, choosing the perfect location for your ceremony and reception is exciting. Many brides have favored sites here at Red Corral Ranch. The options, however, are only limited by your imagination. Consideration and flexibility are paramount at the Red Corral Ranch to create your own individual ceremony- a reflection of your own unique style.

    The Labyrinth
The Labyrinth is an archetype, a divine imprint found in traditions around the world. The mysterious winding path that takes us to the center of the labyrinth becomes a metaphor for our own spiritual journey. The Labyrinth at Red Corral Ranch is a lovingly hand crafted gift to our ranch mother from her son. Built overlooking Wanslow Creek, the Labyrinth is the highest point in the Main Grounds. For their ceremony, many wedding couples have chosen to be joined in the center of the winding paths, surrounded by their loved ones and the beauty of nature. The entire wedding party plus 165 chairs can be arranged on it.

    The Butterfly Garden
Some couples choose to have the ceremony on the beautifully manicured lawn to which our butterfly garden composes the backdrop. Located in the Main Grounds, the Butterfly Garden can add a delightfully playful display to your ceremony. During the spring and summer months, the garden fills with a wondrous display of fluttering color.

    Celebration Hall
The wrap around decks, beautiful trellised main entrance, and vaulted ceilings of Celebration Hall offer a multitude of ceremony sites and reception arrangements. Wedding ceremonies and receptions can seat up to 90 guests in the indoor comfort. With a grand piano in the loft, a large stone fireplace, and covered wood and stone decks wandering under the twinkling giant oaks, Celebration Hall is an elegant choice.

    The Big Red Barn
For a really fun and more casual site, the Big Red Barn allows you to kick up your boots after the ceremony and have a good old barbeque and hoe-down in this 36’x71’ dance and dining area. Light up the fire circle and swing open the barn doors to let the party spill out into the star covered night.

The entire wedding party plus 165 chairs can be arranged on it.

Most prominent among the many works of art is Red Corral’s walking labyrinth; 40 feet in diameter, faithfully reconstructed from medieval design, it provides the venue for meditation and introspection on a proven path one-third of a mile in length.

From the Main Lodge, up the sloping green lawn, atop the high bluff overlooking a creek, the evening finds those taking the labyrinth’s contemplative journey. To low refrains of soothing music, among oak trees reflecting the soft dance of torch flames, Bobbie Matthews and Red Corral owner, Colleen Reeves, trained and certified by Lauren Artress of the Grace Cathedral in San Francisco, guide their guests in the application of the labyrinth pertinent to individual endeavors.

  • The Red Corral Ranch History

The first permanent structure was built on the Red Corral Ranch in 1934. The original ranch house, now known as The Limestone Lodge and located in the Main Grounds, was built out of native stone drawn directly from the land on the ranch.

The stone home and acreage were purchased by the Reeves family in 1969 as a weekend and vacation retreat. The owners and their three sons have enjoyed years of weekend and vacation time at the ranch, while residing in Austin. Over the years, the Reeves have made considerable improvements on the property, always focusing on the use of found and recycled materials.

In 1993, the ranch began its evolution from family vacation home to a premier Wedding and Retreat Venue when it was chosen as the working research site for the "PlanIt Texas" Project. The goal of PlanIt Texas was to demonstrate that it is possible to have an economically successful ranching operation compatible with the Endangered Species Act.

After the successful completion of PlanIt Texas, Colleen Reeves became inspired to broaden the use and purpose of the ranch by expanding the facilities and opening the land to the public. The ranch now offers a variety of amenities to our bed and breakfast guests and services events from corporate and spiritual retreats to weddings all year long.

    Nurturing the land. . .
    The ‘PlanIt’ Texas Project

The listing of the Golden Cheeked Warbler as an endangered species generated massive conflict in Texas. The habitat for this species occurs throughout the hill country and large numbers of land owners resented and resisted actions by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to preserve the habitat. Texas land owners worried that land values would decline if the birds were found on their land.

In 1993 a panel met and developed a plan to resolve this conflict between the landowners and the environmental agencies. A goal was set to demonstrate that it is possible to have an economically successful ranching operation compatible with the Endangered Species Act.

The Red Corral Ranch was chosen as the working site for the plan and “PlanIt Texas" was created. Creative effort means changing ideas. PlanIt Texas had profound affects in Texas. One of the most significant accomplishments of the PlanIt Texas experiment was the passing in 1995 of Proposition 11 in the Texas Legislature which allows landowners the same tax benefits as 'agricultural land' when management is focused on wildlife. This legislation has come to be known as 'Wildlife’. This allows many landowners an opportunity to improve production options with greater biodiversity and healthier ecosystem functionality, while earning an equal or better income.

Through the cooperation of PlanIt Texas board members, a manual for landowners was published. The manual is a valuable resource for land management on many levels.

In 1998, Tom Spencer and the PBS Station KLRU in Austin produced a episode for the show Austin at Issue covering the PlanIt Texas experiment at Red Corral Ranch. The program covered the goals, successes to date and future plans of the experiment.
