  • Our Story

It had long been a dream of ours to own and operate an exceptional Texas Hill Country ranch. My husband Steve, originally from Charlotte, Texas, had long desired to return to his kinder, gentler roots. I was raised a city-girl in the Fort Worth area, but inside of me there was always an "Out of Africa" meets "Annie Oakley" spirit yearning to express herself.

In 1999 we made the leap from "Big D" to "small h" (hills, happiness and heavenly horizons)! No one was more surprised than we were that it actually came together for us. I had been in the catering and special events business in Dallas for 13 years, and Steve had (and has) an insurance brokerage business that he operates on his own. In addition to our raising whitetail deer, I decided to open a guest house on our mountaintop and show off my love of cooking, meet interesting people and share our passion for this wonderful, scenic and fascinating region of the southwest.

The Texas Hill Country is a beautiful region of ancient oaks, hidden canyons, mountain springs and wondrous vistas. We named our ranch "Stony Ridge" in honor of the massive limestone crest that traverses our land. Laden with ancient flint and geodes, we often find prehistoric arrowheads while wandering this magical place we now call home. The unusual connection between awe-inspiring past and the peaceful present is always apparent to our many guests who come to stay with us in this timeless corner of the planet.

As a committed member of the celebrated culinary organization, Les Dames d'Escoffier, former member of the American Institute of Wine and Food, and Managing Director and Board Member of the Texas Olive Oil Council, I can truthfully say I love to prepare glorious food and entertain in my home more than any other calling I can think of. My husband and I cordially invite you to stay with us and enjoy a very special and enriching experience here at the beautiful Stony Ridge Ranch. Walk, sleep, read, look, breathe, think, laugh, eat, drink, dream and sigh. Simply sublime.

    Best regards,
    Rollie and Steve Devlin
