Meyer Bed and Breakfast on Cypress Creek

"Hi Shane, just wanted to let all of you know how much we enjoyed this last week at Meyer! It is the perfect base for our wanderings around the hill country. Over the years we've stayed in several of the rooms and love them all. They are all beautiful and more than comfortable for either the weekend or week. The entire property is always well maintained and gorgeous!:

We both look forward to the delicious breakfast each morning and watching the deer across Cypress Creek. Cypress Creek also runs by our home in NW Houston, so we feel like a common thread connects us when at home or in Comfort.

We've come to love Comfort and all the folks we've met there. There is always someone out on High Street ready to chat and share more of the city's history. This last week we enjoyed the Comfort H.S. Homecoming Parade and Football Game. Go Bobcats!

Our thanks and very best wishes to everyone involved in your beautiful bed and breakfast.

See you in a few weeks!"

    Roy and Lily

We plan to have another reunion in two years, and originally we planned to have it in another state with another family member serving as "host." Everyone enjoyed our stay at the Meyer that they want to return. You will likely see the Candler-Freed-Morlock-Rosser-Lee family again!

    Centograph

This memorial on High Street celebrates the German "Freethinkers" who settled in the area in the mid-19th century, founding a number of Hill Country communities, including Comfort, and leaving a rich German Texas heritage still very much alive.

    "Treue Der Union" Monument

Dedicated in 1866, this is the only monument to the Union cause south of the Mason Dixon line and one of only six sites in the nation which may fly the American flag at half mast in perpetuity. It marks the final resting place of men from Comfort and the surrounding area killed in the "Battle of the Nueces" in 1862. Opposed to slavery and secession, the German settlers of the area suffered greatly during the Civil War. Attempting to leave the state, the group was surprised and killed by Confederate raiders and their bodies recovered after the war ended.
