Texas Wine & Hors’ d eouvres 12 May 2012, 6:11 am
Enjoy a complimentary glass of wine from one of our local wineries from the Bluebonnet Wine Trail or one of our signature house cocktails during our Summer Friday afternoon House Chefs Cocktail & Hors ‘d eouvre Hour from 5-6 P.M. while staying at the ranch . Some of the wine tips and facts from our local vintners are always fascinating something we enjoy passing along to those who enjoy a delicious afternoon libation. These facts were shared with us by Windy Winery.
- What does it mean when a wine is “tannic?”
A tannic wine has an astringency and bitterness that is caused by a high level of tannins. Tannins are a group of chemical compounds found in grape skins, seeds, and stems, and sometimes in the wood barrels wine is fermented in. Tannins are important to the aging of wine. Wines most likely to be described as tannic are red wines.
- Why do some wines give you a headache?
Histamines, found in the skins of grapes, seem to give some people headaches if they are sensitive to histamines. Red wine will affect a histamine sensitive wine drinker more than white wine because red wine has spent more time in contact with grape skins.
Brazos Belle Restaurant 10 May 2012, 8:21 am
If you are not enjoying one of our Tapas, Foodie Baskets or dinner from one of our cooking classes, then we recommend swinging over to the Brazos Belle in nearby Burton. This classically French restaurant lives in a lovely historic building that dates back to 1875. French chef Andre Delacroix trained in Paris before working for ten years at the Four Seasons in Houston; as he grew weary of Big City Life, he conceptionalized and opened the Brazos Belle, offering a simple, seasonal menu of farm-fresh French favorites — like a rockin’ cassoulet. After your incredibly delicious French dinner, bring back a bottle of wine from the restaurant to share on our of our many porches before heading off for a great nights sleep!
