Travelers are always looking for memorable and relaxing experiences. Let’s discover more through the words of our innkeepers. Many thanks to Dick and Nancy Davenport for sharing their own secrets with BBOnline.com! Why do most travelers stay at your inn?
One of three reasons: they are going to Canton, Texas during the weekend preceding the first Monday of the month (First Monday Trade Days weekend). The second reason is for small group or family get-togethers for groups as large as 9 to 13 folks. The third reason is that Plum Pond is a great wedding and reception facility on a beautiful farm.
What are you best known for? What makes your inn unique? What do you love most about your inn?
Christian hospitality freely offered and lovingly accepting. Guests are valued and honored as those God loves and brings so that we might serve them for a brief time in their lives. The beauty and peace found here in abundance.
If someone has never been to your city, what is the #1 reason to come visit?
Plum Pond Bed & Breakfast is in the country just 11 miles from downtown.
What’s the best compliment you have ever received about the inn?
One couple wrote that they experienced a peace during their stay that they had not known was possible together.
What’s the best kept secret about the area?
We live on a country road with only four dear neighbors in the entire two miles and Plum Pond Bed & Breakfast has been there for 5 years.
If a traveler is staying at your inn for 4 nights, what should he/she do in the area?
During the first day visit the First Monday Trade Days in Canton one day in the morning after our breakfast and then come back to read a good book one of the three porches before going out for dinner and then nestling down for the night. Day two pick blueberries at Echo Spring after breakfast, go for a long walk around our 70 acres and have supper in Edom, TX at The Shed. Day three sleep in and then read a good book with coffee on one of the porches and in the evening take in country music and dinner in Ben Wheeler. On Day four use the morning to watch the cows and calves move around the fields in ways that look random but really have a very natural order and often it is hilarious. During the afternoon go into Athens for a very inexpensive first run movie and popcorn at our 4 screen theater.
Is there anything within walking distance of your inn?
Our fishing pond (with fish), our creek (Daniel’s), the end of our County Road 3801 (Henderson County), and our neighbors’ longhorn cattle that will stare you down until you break out laughing and the donkey comes up to check you out.
What is your favorite restaurant/food in the area?
The Shed (Edom), D’ Barn (Murchison), McAllister’s and Jalapeno Tree (Athens), and Cissy’s Café (Brownsboro).
Any good area guides/websites that travelers could reference? How many rooms does your inn have?
We have four rooms (three with queen beds and one with a bunk bed for 2 and a single bed).
Do you accept pets?
We do not accept pets. We can arrange boarding at Morton Small Animal Clinic.

Wonderful B&B! Thanks for everything. We enjoyed our stay so much."
"Wood, pond, slopes to hide the curious wild life, an owl unseen but heard, a 'getaway' to get away. The air revives the soul and body."
"Very nice to bed down at this Texas Ponderosa. Much more than we expected - the hospitality was appreciated!"
