Sorry the house is presently under restoration, but will soon be finished. This website is under construction too; but in the meantime I'm looking for a room mate or partner. It is a nice diverse neighborhood and I'm glad to be back home. I am looking to Host European and Latin International students and tourists.
Historic Riebeek Hall -- This historic house is an antique, grand home built in 1910-1911 in midtown (Historic Central Gardens) Memphis, Tennessee, USA. It has been the home of the present owner and restoration engineer for many years who updated the house with the most modern, maintenance free conveniences available: internet, music, cable, complete with a production wine cellar and a basement. It has dual fuel gas fired hydronic boiler and new state of the art heat pumps; however, the hydronic heat, once the primary source of heat, comes on when the weather outside (is frightful) :-) is below 40 degree F. The house has substantial history and was built in 1910 by the retired Bishop Maury.
Historic Riebeek Hall B&B is located (only one block from Historic Immaculate Conception Cathedral) in the middle of Historic Central Gardens on Central Avenue, about 3 miles east of downtown Memphis and the Muddy Mississippi River. The house is situated on a nice size lot of secluded, beautifully landscaped, with most plants period to the time of construction of the house. We are looking for International guests for this 5000 square foot historic home and Bed & Breakfast with a detached garage. The Historic house was the winter home of The Teague Family from middle Tennessee. Ben, the only son, lived in the residence occasionally with his Mother and Father, later with Diny, the Dutch National Wife, then later with friends for many years, before leaving for a political appointment in Nashville, TN under Governor Lamar Alexander. The B&B is only 5 miles north of Elvis Presley’s Graceland Mansion. This is a gay friendly house.
This historic home has its own plant nursery and germination greenhouse. As you pass through the custom designed secure iron gates to the circle driveway or walk up to the front entrance with copper lights aglow, period landscaping at the foundation and gigantic Magnolia trees in the landscape, Historic Riebeek Hall presents herself. She is seated prominently like a true Grand Dame. This historic home will be restored to it original style by the owners, the restoration is nearing completion.
There are three floors and a basement (work shop/wine cellar) in the house. The house's third floor, as the owners lived in it in the past, had a row of cedar lined closets for off-season clothe storage in it, now the attic (third floor) has been finished out into heated and cooled living space which is used as a hobby room, stained glass workshop, and sewing room. Additionally that floor is also used as an entertainment center since it has music/cable/internet and a huge TV there. Call for rates or reduced pricing for International visitors.
