    Located in the heart of Charleston, South Carolina's famous historic district, the Anchorage Inn was originally built as a cotton warehouse circa 1840. The building spent many years in various commercial roles: its last being the headquarters of Mr. Robertson Allen's brokerage firm. The inn's large threshold stone was placed in memory of Mr. Allen's son in 1959.  Situated in the French Quarter of Charleston's historic district, and just one block from the historic harbor, it seemed only appropriate to pay homage to the harbor's heritage in the name of the Inn. The definition of the word anchorage is "a safe harbor". The inn features seventeen guestrooms and two large suites, uniquely furnished with period reproductions. Since opening in 1991, The Anchorage Inn has adopted this theme in offering their distinguished guests a "safe harbor" in this historic town.

    Accommodations

    Meticulously restored in 2006, the Anchorage Inn offers guests the charm of an era gone by, while still providing the modern comforts one should expect. Guests of the inn discover a true living museum just outside the front door. Over three hundred years of history is accompanied with world renowned dining options, antique and boutique shopping, and distinguished museums - all just a short stroll from our front door.

    The Anchorage Inn is a unique blend of reflective, by gone era reproductions and modern comforts. Situated between the Waterfront Park and Market, the inn is a classic getaway in the middle of history.

    Each of the inn's guest rooms are furnished with period handcrafted reproductions built specifically for the hotel itself. The traditional seventeenth century English decor will be very familiar to those who are knowledgeable about local history. The hotel was built inside the walls of a nineteenth century harbor warehouse. The shipping industry is what fueled Charleston's development, which eventually established it as one of the most prominent and influential cities in our country's history.
