Historic Charleston Hotel
Located in the heart of Charleston, South Carolina's famous historic district, the Anchorage Inn was originally built as a cotton warehouse circa 1840. The building spent many years in various commercial roles: its last being the headquarters of Mr. Robertson Allen's brokerage firm. The inn's large threshold stone was placed in memory of Mr. Allen's son in 1959.
Situated in the French Quarter of Charleston's historic district, and just one block from the historic Charleston harbor, it seemed only appropriate to pay homage to the harbor's heritage in the name of the Inn. The definition of the word anchorage is "a safe harbor". The inn features seventeen guestrooms and two large suites, uniquely furnished with period reproductions. Since opening in 1991, The Anchorage Inn has adopted this theme in offering their distinguished guests a "safe harbor" in historic Charleston
