The History of The Elliott House Inn
Built as a private residence in 1861, the remarkably preserved Elliott House Inn is an architectural treasure that has weathered hurricanes, earthquakes and even the Civil War. The Inn is built in the quintessential Charleston style with welcoming piazzas built to catch cool sea breezes on a warm Carolina day overlooking a private courtyard.
After over a century as a private home, The Elliott House Inn began to welcome guests in 1981. In 2009 the Inn closed for an extensive two-year renovation and is reopening in the Fall of 2011.
The Elliott House Inn recently underwent a two year renovation and was proud to reopen in the fall of 2011 with twenty-five remodeled guest rooms that feature delicate wall coverings, rich hardwood floors, armoires, and oriental rugs.

Our attention to detail and customer service set us apart from the other properties. Our hands on approach with front desk/concierge ensures that every guest is provided with the attention they deserve. Our inn was completely renovated in October 2011 providing state of the art bathroom fixtures while still providing that historic/antebellum feeling of staying in an inn.

Our on-site tour guide can provide you with access to many of Charleston's hidden alleyways and graveyards.
If a traveler is staying at your inn for 4 nights, what should he/she do in the area?
For travelers staying more than just a weekend we suggest they visit the plantations, historic homes, beaches and go on the walking tours all located within walking distance or a short 5-11 mile drive from downtown. Some of the best shopping in the southeast is located right on King Street, which is just 1/2 block from the hotel.
Is there anything within walking distance of your inn?
Everything is within walkind distance including walking tours, carriage rides, ghost tours, church tours, art galleries, antique shopping; you name it.
What is your favorite restaurant/food in the area?
We love 82 Queen restaurant. It has been a Charleston staple for over 25 years now, providing some of the best in low country/southern cuisine. The she crab soup is some of the best you can find in town.
