The Inn at Middleton Place offers Charleston, South Carolina's most unique accommodations in unsurpassed natural beauty perfect for a quiet vacation, a weekend getaway, or a mid-week business conference. The Inn's 55 rooms are secluded among tall pines and live oaks just a short walk away from the historic landmark Middleton Place, home of America's oldest landscaped gardens and a major part of South Carolina's history.
Dramatic floor-to-ceiling windows bring into every room all the richness of the pastoral woodland setting, with sweeping views over the meandering Ashley River, where the rice plantation culture flourished more than 200 years ago. Create memorable experiences at this getaway destination that combines tours of America’s history with naturalist activities from bird watching and hiking to kayaking and horseback riding
Guests of The Inn have complimentary access to all the attractions which make Middleton Place so fascinating. In addition to the Gardens, begun in 1741, the House Museum (c. 1755) offers tours daily focusing on Arthur Middleton, a signer of the Declaration of Independence and the Plantation Stableyards bring to life the sights and sounds of an 18th and 19th century self-sustaining plantation as traditional craftsmen and trades are demonstrated and displayed. -
Travelers are always looking for memorable and relaxing experiences. Let’s discover more through the words of our innkeepers. Many thanks to Abby Martin for sharing her own secrets with BBOnline.com! Why do most travelers stay at your inn? The value included entices our guests to stay with us. With admission to Middleton Place ($37 per day, per person included), the healthy start breakfast and evening reception, the rates are the best value in Charleston.
What are you best known for? What makes your inn unique? What do you love most about your inn? The Inn at Middleton Place is best recognized for its architectural awards and design. Built to blend into its surroundings, you will find nothing like it in Charleston. I absolutely love the marriage between the inn and the grounds, with ivey and fig vine covering the buildings and natural surroundings and wildflowers galore, the partnership is perfect.
If someone has never been to your city, what is the #1 reason to come visit? The #1 reason to visit Charleston would be all the wonderful things to do! We have something for everyone.
What’s the best compliment you have ever received about the inn? The best compliment we have received was from a journalist that wrote a story on how the vision of the inn, which was built in 1985, was still apparent and being kept up today.
What’s the best kept secret about the area? The best kept secret about the area is that we offer kayaking on the Ashley River. As the water is brackish, you can see many different forms of aquatic life on the river.
If a traveler is staying at your inn for 4 nights, what should he/she do in the area? If a traveler was staying multiple nights, we would recommend a full day at Middleton Place, another full day visiting the various Plantations in the area, another spending it in downtown Charleston and one more visiting the many miles of beautiful beaches.
Is there anything within walking distance of your inn? Within walking distance of the inn is Middleton Place Plantation, America’s Oldest Landscaped Gardens. Within the room rate is your admission to the Gardens, House Museum and Plantation Stableyards. This is the most complete plantation experience you will get in Charleston.
What is your favorite restaurant/food in the area? My favorite restaurant is the Middleton Place Restaurant. Candlelight offers a glimpse of a menu full of sustainable seafood and local offerings, all served with plantation flair.
Any good area guides/websites that travelers could reference? I like to send my guests to the CVB, Charleston Visitors Bureau for events and activities.
How many rooms does your inn have? The inn offers guests a choice of 55 rooms.
Do you accept pets? The Inn accepts pets up to 50 lbs and with a non-refundable deposit.
