The Artist's Inn & Gallery - Terre Hill (Lancaster County), PennsylvaniaMake your getaway picture perfect . . .
spend the night in an art gallery!

We invite you to be a guest in our antique-filled 1853 Federal Inn in Terre Hill, a small town nestled among Amish and Mennonite farms. You'll feel like you've escaped to a simpler, gentler time as horse-drawn buggies pass by the inn and chimes play from the 19th century church across the street. Tennis, golf, and cross-country skiing are all nearby or you can enjoy spectator sports like antiquing and outlet shopping. At the end of your day, you'll find your bed turned down with home-made chocolates on your pillow. All of our food is made from scratch and feature eggs and produce from nearby farms, flour and grains from a local mill and even the chocolate is from a nearby chocolate factory.

    Relaxing

All of our three guest rooms have private baths. Two feature Jacuzzi's, all three have fireplaces. Guests may also enjoy our "puzzle room" which has fireplace and a jigsaw puzzle in progress and comfortable seating for reading or stitching. Three porches surround our home where guests may enjoy refreshments.

The Olde Stone Cottage and Carriage House both offer completely private accommodations - full kitchens, outdoor patios with grills, perfect for girlfriend getaways, romantic honeymoons or family get-togethers.

    Gift Certificates

Choose a gift certificate good for any amount you wish, to be used toward our traditional or whimsical artwork, notecards, Christmas cards, or T-Shirts. Or apply the gift certificate to a relaxing stay at our 19th Century Inn, where you or your guests will be pampered with a full gourmet breakfast and other amenities in the heart of Pennsylvania Dutch country. RelaxingBruce and Jan Garrabrandt left the hectic pace of metropolitan living in 1996, to open a bed and breakfast in the heart of Pennsylvania Dutch Country. Bruce is a full-time artist, specializing in finely detailed, colored pencil drawings. His first book, The Power of Having Desire, was published in March, 2004. "Cattle Drive" was published in 2008, "My Name is On the Deed But The Cats Own The House" was published in 2009, and "Make Yourself Ageless" was published in 2011. Innkeeper Jan is a self-confessed recipe addict. She cuts them from newspapers and magazines, prints them off the internet, and trades recipes with guests. Bruce often teases her that she could try a new recipe each day and not exhaust her supply. Coupled with Jan's passion for cooking is a love of gardening. Flowerbeds surround the inn with a broad palette of colors. "Bruce knows that if it rains for more than a day, I'll be asking him to turn over a new bed in the soft ground," Jan says. Her favorite flowers are pastels, but she can't resist any plant that will attract butterflies. "We like to think of this as a community garden," since most of her plants came from friends.

We are pleased to announce that Jan received a Spriit of Hospitality award from the Pennsylvania Dutch Convention
and Visitors Bureau in Lancaster. She is also the Volunteer of the Year for Terre HIll 2009.

Breakfasts are a memorable event - either in the dining room by candlelight or on the Victorian porches. All breakfasts consist of fresh baked goods (scones, breads, turnovers, muffins or popovers), an appetizer, delicious entree and dessert. Meals may include such house specialties as blueberry scones, oatmeal souffle, strawberry crepes, baked turkey and apple sausage, sweet potato streusel, and hazelnut raspberry brownies. Everything, from scones in the morning to chocolates at turndown, is made from scratch! We feature locally grown, fresh produce from Lancaster County and will gladly adapt our menu to any special dietary requests, including gluten-free breakfasts for celiac guests.

Terre Hill has some of the best views in Lancaster County. The terrain is hilly and many bike touring companies go right past the front of our inn, which also is true for horse-drawn buggies of the local Amish and Mennonite farmers. Adamstown (called the "Antiques Capitol of the USA"), is just four miles away and has thousands of dealers and their wares every weekend. There are local farm markets, covered bridges, one-room schoolhouses, produce stands and small craft and antique stores. Our town has a Memorial Day Service, Halloween parade, annual antique car show weekend, town-wide yard sale weekend, and Terre Hill Days. Surrounding towns also have harvest festivals in the fall. The city of Lancaster is a short drive away and offers many museums and historic walking tours. This area is also known for micro-breweries and we can steer guests to some of the best. Learn about the unique lifestyle of the Amish and Old Order Mennonites. Of course, there is always outlet shopping in Reading or Lancaster.

A whole-house vacation rental perfect for girlfriends getaways or family gatherings.

Our newest whole-house vacation rental is the Carriage House. With three bedrooms and two baths, it's perfect for bringing everyone you love with you on your next trip to Lancaster County, and a great alternative to hotel lodging. It features a first floor bath and bedroom, full kitchen and deck with a grill, with a view of the Weaverland Valley - one of the richest areas of Lancaster County and a great source for flowers, herbs and fresh produce.

This whole-house vacation rental is perfect for your next girlfriends getaway or family reunion in Amish country. We installed solar panels on the back roof in February and as of March 1, the carriage house is solar powered.

The green bedroom is on the first floor. It boasts oak antiques and a queen size bed. There is a full bath on the first floor with a walk-in shower, making this bedroom/bath very hip and knee friendly.

There is just one small step into the entrance of the Carriage House. The living room has a flat screen TV, stereo system and I-Pod docking station. The old picture above the sofa is a cigar sign - from cigars produced by Sam Watts. He owned a cigar factory in town - the Carriage House was once used to house those cigars. He's also the gentleman that built our home, The Artist's Inn, and owned 110 acres in Terre Hill. If you are familiar with Terre Hill, ah, that's most of the town! The kitchen is well appointed and has a microwave, dishwasher, toaster and coffee maker. You'll find the fridge stocked with everything you need for your first breakfast - just like we do at The Olde Stone Cottage - eggs, ham, bread, cheese, cereal, apples, baked goodies from the inn, milk, coffee, tea, juice, and, of course, a full cookie jar.

The burgundy bedroom (second floor) is decorated in Waterfall furniture, has a king-size bed and a flat screen TV. All bedrooms have dream machines. The Blue bedroom (second floor) has queen size bed and antique furniture. There's a full bath with shower and tub on the second floor. There is seating for 6 on the outdoor deck and a grill down below.

Rate: $235 Sunday through Thursday nights, $260 Friday and Saturday nights. Two-night minimum on weekends. Price is based on two adults; each adult over is $25/night. Kids under 12 stay free. Maximum allowed by law: 6. A one-night deposit is required to hold the Carriage House.
