Romantic Getaways in Pennsylvania
Welcome to a most extraordinary Pennsylvania bed and breakfast experience -
The Mercersburg Inn.
Enjoy the magnificent surroundings of a turn-of-the-century Georgian mansion, while feeling as comfortable and relaxed as you would in your own home. Just a morning's drive from Washington, D.C., Philadelphia, Baltimore, and Pittsburgh, our historic inn is minutes from world-class skiing, golfing and the historic birthplace of president James Buchanan.
The decorative tile, oak flooring, double-curving wrought-iron balustrades, scagliola columns, and the mahogany and chestnut paneling are all original to the house. The 17 rooms in the Main House and Carriage House of this Pennsylvania bed and breakfast include 4 different types of rooms ranging from standard to extravagant. All have private baths with showers, luxurious linens, bathrobes, and custom bath accessories. The Inn also provides wireless Internet access.
The McCoys and The Mercersburg Inn staff invite you to fully unwind during your stay. Order from our host bar and curl up in front of a crackling fire in our Solarium. Play a game of pool, tinkle away on the ivories, or watch television in the Game Room. Delight in the panoramic view of our beautiful gardens on the West Porch. Chat with friends over mint-laced iced tea, or simply seek quiet solitude on a summer's day.

Travelers are always looking for memorable and relaxing experiences. Let’s discover more through the words of our innkeepers. Many thanks to Lisa and Jim for sharing their own secrets with BBOnline.com! Why do most travelers stay at your inn?
There are so many primary reasons since we have so many events and things to do. But the secondary reason is the physical presence of the inn. The main house is 22,000 sq ft and has 11 ft. ceiling throughout. It has a grand appearance both in and out.
What are you best known for? What makes your inn unique? What do you love most about your inn?
Besides our hospitality and food and food events, it would be the physical presence of the main house and grounds.
If someone has never been to your city, what is the #1 reason to come visit?
We are more in a village setting then a city. It is a charming, friendly place where people say hello to you when you pass in the street. The mountains, farmlands, the covered bridges are all part of a majestic picture.
What’s the best compliment you have ever received about the inn?
There was one couple who said they felt like royalty visiting their family.
What’s the best kept secret about the area?
Probably the quality of our dining but we are working on getting the word out more often.
If a traveler is staying at your inn for 4 nights, what should he/she do in the area?
Depending on the season: Skiing, golf, attend a wine weekend, cooking class or quilting retreat, go hiking in a state park, swim in a crystal clear mountain lake with a sandy beach, have a great meal each night and a great gourmet breakfast each morning.
Is there anything within walking distance of your inn?
Our historic village of Mercersburg is a 5 minute walk from our front door.
What is your favorite restaurant/food in the area?
Well it has to be us. We love fine dining. But we also visit our friends at the James Buchanan Pub.
Any good area guides/websites that travelers could reference?
The Franklin County visitors bureau is a great source of food and things to do in the area. http://www.explorefranklincountypa.com/.
How many rooms does your inn have?
We have 17 guest rooms, 3 dining rooms, a great room, one bar room and a game room.
Do you accept pets?
We can’t accommodate pets but the nearby Welsh Run kennel can take care of your pets and you can visit them during the day.
Pennsylvania Weddings & Elopements
Plan your Pennsylvania wedding in our private mansion at The Mercersburg Inn. Upon arrival, your guests will be received by our experienced, professional staff. Cocktails at the Tile Room Bar, butlered hors d'oeuvres served by our white-gloved servers, dinner prepared by Chef Nowalk of our fine dining restaurant, Byron's Dining Room, then dancing to the music of your choice in the Great Room.
After the wedding reception, retire to your elegantly appointed room, dressed with featherbeds, down comforters, and a fireplace. Awaken the next morning to the aromas wafting from the breakfast kitchen. If you choose, the Inn is a beautiful setting for a wedding. Whether it is a cozy, romantic ceremony in front of the fireplace in our Great Room or an airy, flower-filled spring wedding on our beautifully landscaped lawns, the possibilities are endless. Whatever you chose, it will be unforgettable.
We can accommodate up to 120 guests inside of the Inn. All of our rooms are air-conditioned. For larger groups, up to 175 during the summer months, cocktails can be served in the Tile Room and our open-air porch, and dinner enjoyed in a wedding tent with the majestic front of the Inn as the backdrop. Then, it is back to the Inn for dancing in the Great Room. You can cut your wedding cake in our Grand Lobby, and we will offer cake service in our formal and porch dining rooms.
For weddings larger than 30 guests, in order to create the intimacy and privacy of your special day, we suggest that your guests reserve all of our guest rooms. A wedding with family and friends staying overnight at the Inn affords a time to relax and reminisce. It also lends itself to the blending of the families into a new one brought together by your vows. For more information and to make an appointment to tour the Inn, please call us at 717-328-5231.
