The Australian Walkabout Inn Bed and Breakfast is a peaceful, romantic getaway located in the heart of Amish Country in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. Whether it is a special anniversary weekend, a vacation or a trip to the local outlets, you will experience a unique blend of Pennsylvania Dutch hospitality and luxurious accommodations at The Walkabout.

The main house was built in 1925 by a local cabinet maker. The original owners were descendants of the original settling family of Lancaster County, the Herrs. The historic Hans Herr house is just minutes away. All of the interior woodwork is American chestnut and both the parlor and dining room have beautiful eight foot tall pocket doors hand-crafted of this rare American hardwood.

Hardwood floors, oriental rugs and antique furnishings invite you to experience a blessing of history. Jacuzzi soaking baths, hot tubs, luxury linens and massage therapists beckon you to take pleasure in the pampering of modern amenities. All suites have a private bath with shower, cable TV with DVD players, air conditioning and refrigerators. A collection of books and movies is available for your enjoyment and relaxation.

A full gourmet breakfast is served each morning in our dining room and features the fresh produce, meats and dairy products from local growers and farmers.

Our logo is an Aborigine symbol which means 'a journey with a resting place'. We hope that you will find the Australian Walkabout Inn Bed and Breakfast a comfortable, relaxing place for you to unwind and take refuge from your journeys of life.

Why do most travelers stay at your inn?

They are taking in the Amish sights, shopping at the outlets or attending a show at one of our many theaters in the County.

What are you best known for? What makes your inn unique? What do you love most about your inn?

We are the only B&B in Lancaster County with INDOOR private hot tubs. We have two. One in the McLaren Vale Suite; and one in the Outback Cottage.

The Sight & Sound Theater is our #1 attraction.

What’s the best compliment you have ever received about the inn?

That it looks just like the pictures in our website. Oh, and 'why didn't I find this place sooner?!' That's a direct quote.

What’s the best kept secret about the area?

Our art and foodie scene downtown.

If a traveler is staying at your inn for 4 nights, what should he/she do in the area?

Go downtown for art and good food, see at least one show, shop at the outlets (no tax on clothing or shoes around here), and just get lost in the Amish countryside for a little while.

Is there anything within walking distance of your inn?

Just the pizza place at the corner.

What is your favorite restaurant/food in the area?

    John J. Jefferies.

    Do you accept pets?

No sorry. Don't know of any boarding places, either.
