Hershey Theatre 11 Dec 2014, 7:00 am
The Community Center Building, designed by C. Emlen Urban, houses this beautiful theatre. It was built between 1929-1933, dedicated September 1933 and has been a constant draw to theatre goers and architecture lovers alike.
From the imported materials…to the design styles, this building is a virtual feast for the eyes. The Theatre itself features a “stars and clouds” ceiling which changes from sunset to dusk with the help of small wattage light bulbs. To read in much more detail please check out the Web site. In the “About Hershey Theatre” tab, click “Celebrating 80 Years” from the scroll down menu.
For those architectural aficionados, a Spotlight Tour of the theatre and its history is available. Tours take place year round and there is a nominal fee (adults: $8, Children: $6). Please call (717) 533-6299 for information.
Interesting to note: Almost 600 skilled workers who were unemployed due to the Great Depression, found work as part of Mr. Hershey’s “Great Building Campaign.”… count the number of lions the architect placed throughout the theater…

Pennsylvania Farm Show, Harrisburg, PA 17 Nov 2014, 7:00 am
PENNSYLVANIA FARM SHOW
A Pennsylvania tradition for nearly one hundred years..99 years in 2015, to be exact. Our State is proud to host the largest indoor agricultural exposition in the nation…over 13,000 competitive exhibits, close to 6,000 animals and an impressive number of commercial exhibits..300 expected..
Housed in 24 acres under roof and spread over 11 buildings, the show rounds up the best of farming innovation, new equipment, education, fun activities and competitions, and all sorts of tasty treats for visitors…and the visitors do come each year.. hundreds of thousands.
No visit would be complete without seeing the annual 1,000 pound butter sculpture, experiencing the now famous sheep to shawl competition or sampling some of the local fare.
There is so much to see and do, it would be difficult to fit it all into one day. And so the show runs a full week, the 2015 show runs from Saturday, January 10, 2015 – Saturday, January 17, 2015. There are those who wonder why an event this huge would be held during a time of year when adverse weather conditions could be a factor..and they usually are! But January is the time of year when farmers are not out working their land…
The official website has an abundance of information, so do visit!
