Feller House Bed & Breakfast
Quilts, Quilts, Quilts! 17 Jan 2015, 5:50 pm
The Willamette Valley has a rich history of quilting. It was a means of expression for women and a practical way to provide beauty as well as comfort in the home.
Many beautiful historic quilts as well as other arts and crafts can be seen at the Old Aurora Colony Historical Museum here. The museum gives us a picture of what life was like in this part of the valley during the Aurora Colony period from 1856 to 1883.
Women continue to gather at the museum every Tuesday to work on projects, one being the annual quilt that is raffled at the annual October quilt show that benefits the museum.

A New Christmas Adventure 22 Dec 2014, 2:26 pm
When we moved to this new location here on the French Prairie,
we knew that the soil was excellent for growing lots of things. How
would we decide what to plant? There was a current farm deferral
with Marion county so we decided the first thing would be some
nursery stock and Christmas trees.
Now seven years later, the Christmas trees were finally big enough to harvest some this season.
We told our friends and did a little advertising and families have come and had fun choosing their Christmas trees. Some have preferred to cut their own with a pruning saw and some have tried out a chain saw for the first time. We have visited with friends and neighbors over hot chocolate and cookies and are glad to have the opportunity to provide folks with a fun holiday adventure.

It’s That Beautiful Spring Time of Year! 19 Mar 2014, 2:19 pm
It is a beautiful time of year in the Willamette Valley of Oregon! We are always awe struck when the first daffodils appear, then the flowering trees and the greening of the grass! Traveling on back roads is an inspiration as we take in all of the vivid colors of spring. Agricultural activity has picked up with nurseries planting and harvesting, farmers tending to animals with newborn spring babies and soon to be tilling and planting fields as well.
Consider a visit soon. Stay at the Feller House Bed and Breakfast, our restored 1860′s farmhouse now with cozy rooms and healthy home cooked breakfasts, while checking out the many local attractions. The Wooden Shoe Tulip Fest opens on March 28th and runs through May 4th, there are many wine tasting events at local wineries and vineyards, and retail nurseries opening for the season.
Winter on the French Prairie 25 Jan 2014, 10:28 am
Oregon’s French Prairie, located in the northern Willamette Valley is rich in history and takes its name from French Canadian and Indian families who re-settled in the area in the 1830′s. In 1843, at the town of Champoeg (now Champoeg State Park) a half dozen or so of the leading French Canadians joined with their American neighbors in voting to form a provisional government.
Champoeg State Park Visitors Center depicts the story of the area in early times and is well worth a visit. The story of the settling of the town of Aurora, on the Eastern portion of the French Prairie, can be learned in a visit to the Old Aurora Colony Museum in Aurora. Many of the historic buildings still remain and a brochure titled “Walk with Emma” gives visitors a self guided tour of this National Historic District. Many of the historic buildings are occupied by antique shops and other businesses.
Feller House Bed and Breakfast is offering a two night winter special Sunday through Thursday from January 25 to March 20 for just $189.00 allowing guests to visit the area and also enjoy the cozy atmosphere of our bed and breakfast in the winter. Start the day with a freshly brewed cup of coffee and a delicious breakfast then relax by the fire or head out to discover the area.

Tomatoes for Breakfast? 15 Aug 2013, 11:21 am
It has been a great gardening year here in the Willamette Valley! Spring brought us just the right amount of rain, sun, and warm days to get the garden off to a good start. Thanks to our neighbors for the hop compost we hauled in and added to the soil and for some wonderful summer weather, now our garden is overflowing with zucchini, tomatoes, corn, and lots of other tasty vegetables.
This is the fourth season the Mitchell’s and Feller House have hosted a community garden with about 10 families participating every Tuesday evening. The fun begins with some work in the garden, good conversation, harvesting vegetables and then eating a potluck dinner together. Because one half of this innkeeping duo (whose name is Arnie) has a passion for growing things, we have about 200 tomato plants (43 varieties) and enough zucchini for our community garden families plus the neighborhood except that they all keep their yard lights on and their cars locked at night!
If you happen to be a guest during this season at the Feller House, you just might find tomatoes on your breakfast plate and maybe even zucchini disguised in some yummy dish.

When Life Gives you Scraps, Make a Quilt! (Or even when it doesn’t!) 31 Jan 2013, 11:26 am
Winter is a good time to quilt and there is plenty to see and do around the Willamette Valley when the quilting subject comes up!
The annual “Winter Winds Quilt Shop Hop” begins on February 6th and runs through February 16th. It is a chance to be inspired by the many quilt displays in the 16 featured shops as well as taking advantage of sales and free patterns and chances to win great prizes.
Last year, my daughter and I and a friend visited all of the shops on the Willamette Valley path and were loaded up with ideas and two of us even won generous gift certificates!
The 41st Annual Quilt Show and Workshop is scheduled for February 21 – 23 at Zion Mennonite Church in Hubbard and will showcase about 100 beautiful quilts as well as workshops for learning new techniques. They even serve a great homemade soup lunch.
Our little town of Aurora has a rich history of quilts, some of which can be seen at the Aurora Colony Museum. Sure to delight and inspire also, is a beautiful coffee table book, “Aurora An American Experience in Quilt, Community, and Craft” written by Jane Kirkpatrick, a popular Oregon writer.
At the Feller House Bed and Breakfast, you are likely to see a quilt on the table at breakfast.
