Effie's Place Bed and Breakfast

 Welcome to our restored Victorian villa, located in the heart of downtown Wilmington, Ohio. Conveniently located midway between Cincinnati, Columbus and Dayton, just off of Interstate 71. Built in 1871, Effie's Place is a two story Victorian with alabaster chandeliers, authentic leather wallpaper, stucco siding with a clay tile roof and a 7 foot stained glass window overlooking the grand staircase.

We have three well appointed guestrooms with private baths and serve a full, gourmet breakfast every morning at your convenience. Enjoy fresh baked cookies upon your arrival, and feel free to join us in the gathering room to meet your fellow travelers and experienced innkeepers. We named our Bed and Breakfast after Effie Fisher, a prior owner of the home. Effie was married to the local newspaper publisher, William Fisher, and together they purchased the house in 1911. After William died in 1916, Effie continued to live in the house by herself until her death in 1965. In the first half of the century, Effie remodeled the house to its current architecture, including some of the most prominent features. Because so much that Effie incorporated into the house has remained unchanged, we wanted to honor her by remembering it as her place.

From Columbus or Cincinnati:
Take I-71 (South from Columbus, North from Cincinnati) to exit 50 (US Route 68). Go south on 68 into Wilmington. Once you get into town, 68 will take a sharp right turn. After this turn it becomes South Street. We are approximately 4 blocks down on the right side of the street. Look for our sign in the front yard.

From Dayton:
Follow 35 East around Xenia to the Home Ave, Wilmington (US Route 68) exit. Turn right onto route 68. Travel approximately 16 miles to Wilmington. Once you get into town, 68 will take a sharp right turn. After this turn it becomes South Street. We are approximately 4 blocks down on the right side of the street. Look for our sign in the front yard.

Each of the uniquely decorated rooms has a charm of its own. All rooms have guest-controlled air conditioning, televisions, telephones, wireless Internet, hairdryer, writing desk, comfortable chairs, iron and ironing board. FAX machine available for guest use. All room prices are based on double occupancy and include a full hot breakfast. Additional guests are $15/person. The guest refrigerator is always stocked with water.

The Denver Suite
Our premier suite, the Denver Suite is named after General James W. Denver, a native of Wilmington. General Denver was the territorial governor of the Kansas territory, and the namesake of Denver, Colorado. This is a large suite that looks out on to the back gardens where you can see the result of Mumsie's hard work and green thumb.

The Davis Room
This room is named after Dr. A. T. Davis. The doctor built the house for himself and his family, and also helped to create the Clinton County Medical Society. One of the larger rooms in the house, it has a king size bed that can be converted to two twin beds, and a private bathroom with a jetted tub and shower. It also has a desk for writing and a small sitting area. This room overlooks the front of the house, which catches all the morning sun.

The Ellington Room
Named for a prior owner of the house, this room is perfect for the single traveler. It has a copper plated, full size brass bed, a private bathroom with a shower, and writing desk. This room also overlooks the front of the house, which has good views of downtown Wilmington and the city park about a block away.
