Welcome to A Water's Edge Retreat, a luxury bed and breakfast located on Kelleys Island, Ohio! Our award winning inn offers guests the opportunity to relax and unwind from the hustle and bustle of life on the mainland. This beautiful three story Queen Anne Victorian house offers unobstructed views of the beaches and lake, so you can truly relax and reconnect with the serenity of the watefront.
Relax on the porch and watch as the waves roll in, or dip your feet in the cool waters from our beachside dock. Enjoy the elegance of a by-gone era with antiques and period furniture, while still enjoying the modern conveniences of a fancy hotel, like central air conditioning and private baths.
Each morning, enjoy a freshly prepared gourmet breakfast in the formal dining room, covered verandas, gazebo, beach deck or in the gathering room near the fireplace.
While a car is ideal for those looking to explore the entire island, the most popular mode of transporation is by bicycle and golf cart, both of which are welcome and available to you at the inn.
Remember, island life is a slower pace than on the mainland: so leave your worries on the mainland, and escape to a serene and peaceful getaway on little island paradise, even though you are only 25 minutes of the mainland!
Innkeepers Tim and Beth Hermes are excited to show you what life is like on Kelleys Island. They have been honing their craft in culinary arts and hospitality for more than almost 20 years, to provide you with beautiful breakfast courses that will leave you full, satified and ready to start your day. And they are always willing to share their knowledge of the best attractions and things to do on the island, so please do not hesitate to ask for recommendations on attractions.
Travelers are always looking for memorable and relaxing experiences. Let’s discover more through the words of our innkeepers. Many thanks to Tim & Beth Hermes for sharing their own secrets with BBOnline.com! Why do most travelers stay at your inn?
The amazing ambiance of an island getaway without driving or flying to the ocean or seashore. They love the peaceful, tranquil "stepping back in time" feel. We are so much fun and they laugh so much. I sing breakfast songs as we serve our Gourmet Breakfast Feast Buffet....and damn it is great!
What are you best known for? What makes your inn unique? What do you love most about your inn?
It is the prettiest home on the island. We offer amenities that no one else on the island offer, like Sangria Hour, Massage Therapy, Facials, etc.
If someone has never been to your city, what is the #1 reason to come visit?
It's an island! Just a 25 minute ferry from the Mainland and you are in another world.
What’s the best compliment you have ever received about the inn?
Wow, hard to answer; mostly we just get hugs and repeat guests over and over, they cannot stay away. When we hear "we were planning to go to Hawaii or California, but we decided to stay closer...we had no idea there was an ocean in Ohio...with wonderful hosts!
What’s the best kept secret about the area?
It is the peaceful island, not the drink-and-puke island next door. Glacial Grooves, sailing possibilities, over 1/3 of the island is State Park and protected marshes and forest.
If a traveler is staying at your inn for 4 nights, what should he/she do in the area?
Hike, bike, eat perch at the Pump, Lobster Rolls at the Island House, dance at the Casino, swim at the North Sandy Beach, kayak around the island, take the Jet Express over to South Bass Island and Port Clinton for some more commercial fun, but they always love returning to the peace here on Kelleys Island.
Is there anything within walking distance of your inn?
Only 1/2 mile to Marina and their restaurant, one mile to downtown, we give our guests bikes at no additional charge, so they love to ride the flat island.
What is your favorite restaurant/food in the area?
Toss up, Island House and Kelleys Island Wine Company.
Any good area guides/websites that travelers could reference? How many rooms does your inn have?
Six: four waterfront Guest Suites and two larger Suites, the Honeymoon Suite and the Robert Stephen Suite. All have private baths and water views.
Do you accept pets?
No. We have had a few exceptions for little dogs in cages for very few. A service animal would be an exception.
