MerleFest April 24-27,2014 6 Dec 2013, 12:00 pm
MerleFest April 24-27,2014
MerleFest, which began in 1988, is about the Music, Moments and Memories.
The Music of MerleFest is “traditional plus” and Doc Watson himself describes it best: “When Merle and I started out we called our music ‘traditional plus,’ meaning the traditional music of the Appalachian region plus whatever other styles we were in the mood to play. Since the beginning, the people of the college and I have agreed that the music of MerleFest is ‘traditional plus’.”
The Moments of MerleFest are those unique experiences that only happen here. It may be two musicians you never expected to see collaborating, a shooting star over The Watson Stage during an evening’s closing set, or that one set that seems to have touched everyone in the audience.
The Memories of MerleFest includes the memory of Eddy Merle Watson, who we honor each day with The Tribute to Merle, and the new memories we create each year we come together to celebrate MerleFest.
MerleFest is the primary fundraiser for Wilkes Community College.

CHOOSE & CUT CHRISTMAS TREES
The Christmas Trees Farms have already started preparing for the Holiday Season. Come visit the tree farms and share the tradition of getting a fresh cut Frasier Fur Tree for Christmas. We would be happy to package in the cost of the tree with your stay. Let us know and we can arrange this.
Watauga County, also known as the Choose and Cut Capital, is home to some of the most entertaining and scenic Choose and Cut farms across the region. Choose and Cut involves customers visiting a tree farm and roaming across tree-covered hillsides hunting the perfect tree to take home with them. Choose and Cut is the essential holiday family tradition, where young and old alike can enjoy a day on a real farm. Many farms offer hayrides, farm animals, cookies and cocoa and even Christmas Shops to purchase other holiday gifts. Wreaths and roping are also available to purchase. www.watauganurserymen.org
