  • Introduction

Sleep to the soothing sounds of the tumbling stream at Maggie Valley's truly streamside Bed & Breakfast

Your candlelit breakfast is served on the creekside deck in warm weather

Do you dream of escaping to your own mountain hideaway, tucked underneath hundred year old poplars & hemlocks, with a creek tumbling past, waterfall, after little waterfall? Do you long to wake under handstitched quilts, your head nestled on a feather pillow, to the smell of coffee and something (is that cinnamon) baking? Do you wish someone would bring you a warm mug of coffee or tea to your room to savor while you dress? And then, imagine, you can stroll out to the South Deck for a leisurely breakfast overlooking the tumbling stream.

We specialize in romantic elopements and mountain outdoor weddings.

The Great Smoky Mountains have something for everyone: hiking, snow skiing, gem mining, craft fairs, the Blue Ridge Parkway and the Appalachian Trail, the Cherokee reservation and Harrah's Casino, white water rafting, or just relaxing in beautiful Western North Carolina. We look forward to seeing you soon!

Stretched alongside the falling stream, deep in the forest on the mountainside

    Guest Comments

"We don't remember the transition through a mystical portal to arrive here, but we surely must have passed through one to reach this place where charm and chivalry and kindness are commonplace, in a perfectly appointed cottage on the water. --Bradenton FL"

"We stayed here as part of a larger trip which started with a week in Manhattan. Maggie Valley seemed literally like a secluded paradise. The stream right under our balcony completed the sense of escape. The most surprising aspect of the stay was the breakfast - it was incredible. After spending a week eating at the nicest restaurants of Manhattan, for a B&B breakfast to seem amazing is very impressive. We will definitely be going back. --San Antonio TX"

Sit by the creek and watch the waterfalls... and the sunset over the mountains!

When you visit Timberwolf Creek Bed & Breakfast, you are pampered to pieces, and treated to a divine breakfast served by the stream. Treats appear as if by magic. The elves & faeries keep your room tidy and insure that your towels are always fresh and your bed prepared. Sandee's "Golden Plume" Day Lilies  Private baths with Jacuzzi bathtubs-for-two, fine amenities, posh linens and fat comfy chairs...  Choose a king suite (The Timberwolf Retreat or The Curve of the Creek Suite) or a queen room (The Streamsong or The Woodland Room).  They each have a private deck overlooking the water.

When you choose a Luxury Vacation Cabin rental instead (elves & faeries and breakfast not included, but can be added, if you wish) your privacy is not disturbed, and your little slice of heaven is yours alone. Select from The Black Bear Cottage in the Woods, or the larger Creek House.

(The Timberwolf Retreat has a second queen bedroom that can be added to the suite.  That room cannot be rented alone, but is part of the Creek House so the whole-house rental includes three bedrooms, plus a sleeper sofa in the upstairs living room, so it sleeps a total of 8.)

  • Breakfast

Typically, we serve a sweet breakfast one morning, and a savory the next. If you have a preference, please let us know. We're happy to oblige.

Whenever possible, we use fresh, local, organic eggs and produce. Our eggs are free-range and organic-fed from a local farmer. Jams, apple butter and sauces are made in our kitchen or from the farmer's market. Apples, berries, and tomatoes are from my Uncle Carroll's place, the historic Crockett-Campbell Homestead at the foot of the hill.

Here are a couple of examples of typical morning fare...

    Savory...

FRESH PINEAPPLE SPEARS and Just-Whipped Cream

    EGGS NICHOLAS
Ham cups filled with either portabella mushrooms in cream or spinach parmesan and then topped with an egg, drizzled with heavy cream, and baked until the egg is set

    SWEET HASH
A combination of diced white potatoes and sweet potatoes sauteed in olive oil, with just a touch of rosemary

BUTTERMILK BISCUITS with honey butter and jam

    Your choice of Juice
    Elida Estate Coffee

    Sweet...

    FRIED APPLES
Apples are local and abundant. We usually have two types in our friend apples.  They are steamed, then seared in butter with cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg and ginger, then carmelized with brown sugar.  There is rarely any evidence left on a plate that these were ever served.  :)

    CHAPELURE
Now, chapelure is just French for breadcrumbs, so if you are offered chapelure anywhere else, be suspicious!  This isn't really the ubiquitous Oven French Toast which has become standard B&B fare. It's filled with berries and nuts and granola and spices and all sorts of good things. Served with Just-Whipped Cream and Maple Syrup

    SAGE SAUSAGE or BACON

    Your choice of Juice
    Elida Estate Coffee

This is a Blueberry-Ricotta Chapelure... I was looking for a better description than 'oven French toast' or 'bread pudding' and neither seemed to suit.  It's my own recipe, and includes French bread, sourdough, and a croissant for tenderness - then a blend of eggs and whole milk and a bit of cream and brown sugar and Mexican vanilla and spices (always nutmeg, usually mace, clove and ginger - sometimes cinnamon, it depends on the fruit).  I searched high and low for inspiration and finally said, "Oh for heaven's sake, it's just bread crumbs...  Ok, French bread crumbs."  So, I looked up the translation and voila' - Chapelure!

You'll be asked, when you make your reservation, if you have any dietary issues or special needs that we should know about.  And we'll tell you, "I don't like onions is just as important as I'm allergic to strawberries."  We want you to really enjoy your breakfast, so tell us what your favorites are, tell us what you'd rather not be served.  Not to worry, though: you'll be served a hearty breakfast with enough variety to find something that pleases you.

It's our goal to make certain that you have a satisfying meal - enough that you'll most likely want to skip lunch!  If you're having breakfast delivered to your room, you'll enjoy the same menu and variety as those being served at table.

Your Wedding in a Beautiful Woodland Cove a celebration with up to fifty guests
Your wedding ceremony venue... Brigadoon Cove

This open-air chapel is set in a woodland cove garden, with stone benches and towering trees and a mountain stream. Logs form the base of the beautiful pews and the canopy is nature's own. A natural clearing in the forest under tall hardwood trees makes a fabulous green canopy overhead during spring and summer, and breathtaking golds and reds and russets in autumn. The cove is landscaped in lovely plants, many native to these mountains.  You'll find azaleas and oak-leaf hydrangea and dozens of ferns and hostas and coral bells and all sorts of lilies.  For spring, the tulip and daffodil and crocus bulbs greet early celebrations.  The entire cove is ringed in ancient native great rhododendron (wolf laurel) with dense foliage that affords privacy and seclusion.

    Different Drummer

Maggie Valley's own potter, Terry will WOW you with his fabulous work.  That's a little sample of his pottery in the photo.  Want to see more?  His studio is on the main road in Maggie Valley - a little log cabin, across from Eaglenest.  And check it out: he does entire landscapes in clay!

    Burr Studio
Dane & MaryEtta Burr have an inspiring gallery in nearby Waynesville.  MaryEtta mans the potter's wheel (although she's not limited to it) and Dane's sculpture will make you smile.  Be sure to take note of the incredible counter: it was hand-fashioned by the two of them.  And if you stop in, be sure to tell Dane, "I'm here for Sandee's mug!"  (That's a standing joke.  He's been promising me the darned thing for three years, now.)

We have some of the most interesting neighbors...

Popcorn Sutton who is featured prominently in both Mountain Talk and in the CMT (Country Music Television) production Moonshine Madness.

Henry Queen who is also featured in Mountain Talk, is a wonderfully talented musician.  You may hear his music playing here at Timberwolf Creek, and you can check it out yourself at his website.

Raymond Fairchild who plays his banjo nightly at the Maggie Valley Opry House.

Hattie Caldwell Davis is our neighbor across the lane, and author of several books outlining the history of this beautiful place.

And over in Asheville, Grovewood Gallery  carries Todd Barrow's work - he's the fellow who made the beautiful bed in The Woodland room in our Black Bear Cottage in the Woods.  He was also featured on HGTV's Modern Masters series, and he made the bedroom furniture for the Swiss Family Robinson Treehouse at Walt Disney World, too!

    Snow Skiing

The entrance to the Cataloochee Ski Resort is just over a mile from Timberwolf Creek! Of course, then you drive four miles ...UP... to the ski lifts! Take advantage of their midweek rates, and be sure to check out the schedule for the Night Skis. Equipment rentals are available both in Maggie, and at the resort. Have you tried snowboarding yet? We've heard good reports of the private lessons (very reasonable) as well.

    Whitewater Rafting

The rivers of Western North Carolina offer a variety of raft trips, including the hair-raising Ocoee (experienced rafters only), the French Broad which has enough rapids to give the novice a thrill, and the Nantahala for family trips. Take your river trip via raft, canoe, kayak, or "duck".

Our family started out on the French Broad River and we can recommend this run, especially since it ends at Hot Springs... There's nothing like climbing into a big steaming hot tub right at the edge of the river to ease the muscles you just discovered you had!

Last year's trip on the Little Pigeon River was a bit more challenging, and a lot of fun!  A great couple of hours on the river, it starts about on the other side of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, so it becomes a fabulous day-trip.  The drive through the park takes about an hour and a half.  Then you spend the early afternoon on the river, leaving the rest of your day free to picnic, or seek out some great Carolina barbeque, or hike a mountain trail.  We chose to drive across the "top" of North Carolina, and -after a brief sojourn back in those great mineral springs tubs at Hot Springs- made our way back to Timberwolf Creek via Asheville.  National Park, whitewater, hot springs soaking, and shopping.  What more could you ask?
