Today, spend happy hours overlooking the secluded, tranquil grounds from rocking chairs on the expansive front porch. On cooler evenings, retreat to the elegant, but comfortable gathering room with its wood-burning stove before retiring to your private quarters, a cozy oasis beautifully appointed with an eclectic blend of antiques and family treasures. For your comfort, our guestrooms are furnished with down comforters, private baths, remote cable TV, and many more amenities you deserve.
1902 Turnpike House is nestled in the mystery and beauty of the North Carolina High Country. Located just twenty minutes from Grandfather Mountain, and within minutes of Beech and Sugar Mountains, the Banner Elk area offers visitors activities which include skiing, white water rafting, trout and bass fishing, hiking, mountain biking, or if you wish just sitting on the front porch enjoying the cool summer breezes of the mountains.
Picture waking slowly in your lovely, comfortable room to the peace, quiet, and cool fresh air of a serene mountain morning. Dress for the day at a leisurely pace while enjoying a hot cup of coffee, tea or cocoa in your room. Come on down to breakfast at our handmade, antique heartpine dining table, which is always candlelit and decorated with beautiful, seasonal flowers. Take your seat and be served a scrumptious, homemade, full mountain breakfast on sparkling china and crystal with soft, soothing background music. Begin your day on the spectacular Balcony of the Blue Ridge relaxed, refreshed and renewed. Unforgettable!
A typical breakfast might consist of our Turnpike House Egg Casserole , Aunt Laurie's Apple Crisp, homemade blueberry muffins, crisp bacon, fresh orange juice and other beverages.
Other specialties include Blueberry Pecan French Toast with homemade blueberry syrup , Beech Mountain Eggs, Pecan Waffles, Paul's Quiche Lorraine , Bananas Foster French Toast, Cindy's Banana Bread, and our special Herb and Cheese Soufflé.
Evenings at the inn offers other culinary opportunities. For those who choose not to go to one of Banner Elk's wonderful restaurants, we offer a choice of home-cooked meals, many of which are from the menu of Chef Paul's personal chef service, "Dinner's Served" .
