  • Insider's Info

Travelers are always looking for memorable and relaxing experiences. Let’s discover more through the words of our innkeepers. Many thanks to Drew Hepburn for sharing his own secrets with!
Why do most travelers stay at your inn?

Most travelers visit the Cedar Crest Inn due to our close proximity to to the Biltmore Estate and downtown Asheville. We have also found that travelers enjoy our laid back atmosphere. We are not your typical Inn run by a retired couple. We employee people from all walks of life and our attitude reflects that. This Inn is about the guests first. This is not our home, it is the home of those that choose to stay here.

What are you best known for? What makes your inn unique? What do you love most about your inn?

We are best known for being a bed and breakfast that is accepting of all customers. We also pride ourselves in providing classy accommodations at reasonable prices. Although our establishment was designed by the same artisans as the Biltmore Estate and breathes elegance, we are as unpretentious as a bed and breakfast can be. We serve free wine throughout the day and night, we have fun music playing at all times and we are always around to engage in conversations of all sorts when the guest would like.

If someone has never been to your city, what is the #1 reason to come visit?

Many would argue that the reason to come to Asheville is the Biltmore Estate. Although it is something everyone should see at some point, Asheville offers so much more. I have lived in larger cities my whole life like San Diego, Los Angeles, New York and Philadelphia, yet there is a reason I choose to live here. Asheville has a very accepting culture, everyone is respected and accepted for their choice in lifestyle. The food, beer and music scene hangs with larger cities known for their culture.

What’s the best compliment you have ever received about the inn?

I am not sure the best compliment has come in the form of a direct verbal compliment. The best compliment we can receive is that people feel comfortable enough to be themselves. Whether that means coming down in their pajamas for breakfast or engaging in conversation that is more than just the regular small talk.

What’s the best kept secret about the area?

The restaurants in Asheville are the city's best kept secret. Many people don't realize just how great the food scene is here. You can eat at fine dining establishments that triumph those in larger cities for half the price, or you can get a great gourmet meal from a food truck.

If a traveler is staying at your inn for 4 nights, what should he/she do in the area?

For travelers staying more than just a weekend we suggest  they eat good food and drink good beer! Of course, a visit to the Biltmore Estate would be a must. Watching a sunset while drinking an over priced cocktail and listening to jazz music at the Grove Park Inn is definitely fun. Depending on the season cruising the Blue Ridge Parkway, hiking and going to festival are also wonderful things to do.

Is there anything within walking distance of your inn?

Two of my three favorite fine dining restaurants in Asheville are just a short walk from the Inn. You can also take a short walk to a number of bars and even a brewery. If you are up for the task you can take the 1.2 mile walk into downtown as well.

What is your favorite restaurant/food in the area?

There are so many great restaurants in Asheville to choose from. If I had one meal and one meal only in Asheville I would choose Curate. Curate is a Spanish tapas restaurant located a little over a mile from the inn downtown. They serve the best tapas the USA has to offer. They mix a mean cocktail and have a wine list consisting of some Spanish reds that you just won't find elsewhere in the states. The Chef and owner, Chef Button has trained with some of the best in the world and her food and menu reflect those experiences.

Any good area guides/websites that travelers could reference?

The only two that one would ever need would be the chamber of commerce's page and a page thrown together by an advocate for Asheville, Mark File at

How many rooms does your inn have?

We have 20 bedrooms spread out amongst 17 rent-able units. A few of our bedrooms are part of a two bedroom suite. We have three separate buildings here that house rooms for everyone's tastes. In the main Inn we have your classic Victorian bed and breakfast rooms. In our turn of the century arts and crafts cottage we offer rooms that have more of a mountain home or quaint cottage feel. In our Carriage House and Stables we offer more modern rooms that are appointed with marble, granite, large flat screen TV's and many other modern day conveniences.

    Do you accept pets?

We happily accept pets in certain rooms. Everyone that works here is an animal lover! We allow guests traveling with their pets to stay in either of the cottage rooms.
