Fernwood Cottage offers a different type of mountain lodging in the Andrews - Murphy, North Carolina area - a cabin rental divided into two separate suites. Enjoy the privacy of your own suite. Or bring along family and friends and enjoy both suites - at a discount.

Each suite has a large living/dining/bedroom, kitchen, and bathroom with shower, handmade queen-sized bed, plus queen sofa bed for additional guests and dining table for four. Separate heat and air-conditioning, satellite TV with DVD and VCR. Totally furnished, beautifully decorated and immaculately clean.
Don't worry about rushing to the grocery store on arrival. A continental breakfast will be waiting for you on your first and second days.
You have the privacy of your own cabin, but also the option to bring along friends and family and have the place to yourselves.
Our North Carolina mountain cabin is about one mile from the little town of Andrews, where you can find restaurants, food markets, service stations, wine/beer & liquor stores, antique stores and other merchants, library, movie, and churches of almost all faiths. The John Campbell Folk School (crafts) is nearby and artists and craftspeople of all sorts are located near here. Andrews is only 2-1/2 hours from Atlanta, 2 hours from Chattanooga, Asheville, and Knoxville. And, we are just a short drive from the Great Smoky Mountains National Park and Harrah's Cherokee Casino. -
A vast outdoor playground surrounds Fernwood Cottage. For rafting, canoeing or kayaking on the Nantahala River, we recommend Endless Rivers and Appalachian Rivers outfitters. For rafting on the Ocoee River, we suggest the Ocoee Adventure Center.For fishing, there are plenty of mountain trout streams nearby. And nearby lakes — Nantahala, Chatuge, Fontana and Hiwassee — where you can rent a boat and try your hand at mountain lake fishing. There are any number of nature hikes and walks in the area, including the Joyce Kilmer Memorial Forest. But if you prefer to ride, there are several stables that offer horseback riding trips into the Smoky Mountains. Several mountain golf courses are nearby.
Bike rentals are available at the Nantahala Outdoor Center and the nationally known Tsali mountain bike area is nearby. The John Campbell Folk School is just minutes away where you can watch artisans at work and visit the craft shop.
The Cherohala Skyway offers a 40+ mile scenic drive that rivals the Blue Ridge Parkway. Fields of the Wood, is a Bible Park where God's word is displayed on the mountainsides. There are many pottery, woodworking, dulcimer, painting, and hand-blown glass studios and galleries. Numerous antique dealers offer folk art to classic collectibles.
A one-hour drive The Cherokee Indian Reservation offers an Indian Village, Outdoor Drama and Casino. The Great Smoky Mountains Railroad offers scenic excursions through the mountains. The Great Smoky Mountains National Park has many hiking trails, scenic drives, tubing and fishing spots, and a mountain farm museum.
