    1922 Starkey House is the perfect "home base" from which to explore the wineries, vineyards, restaurants, lakes, and numerous attractions of the beautiful Finger Lakes Region of Upstate New York. The house provides a  warm and welcoming country atmosphere just a short drive away from the bustling shops and restaurants of Watkins Glen, Geneva, Penn Yan, or Ithaca.

    The Seneca, Keuka, and Cayuga Wine Trails, as well as the Artisan Cheese trails are all just minutes away. If you enjoy Watkins Glen International racing, it is just ten miles away. Bring your love for fishing and boating to the nearby NY State boat launch. The house features Mission style architecture and sits proudly on almost two lush acres with garden views of perennials and evergreens. The property also displays huge Catalpa, Sycamore and Maple trees that provide inviting shaded sitting places. Guests may enjoy delicious breakfasts and evening buffet snacks in the dining room or on the porches.

    Why do most travelers stay at your inn?

    To visit the Finger Lakes Wine Country section of Upstate New York for a vacation destination, attend a wedding, outdoor nature adventures, Watkins Glen auto racing (NASCAR) and wine tasting at over one hundred unique wineries.

    What are you best known for? 

    I am best known for warm hospitality, and fresh two to three course "farm to table" organic breakfasts. I cater to all a variety of eating styles starting with traditional American egg and meat dishes as well as fresh fruits, vegetables, and grains required by vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free guests.

    What makes your inn unique?

    The architecture of the house from circa 1922, the Arts & Crafts period, with stained glass windows, vintage lighting and original chestnut wood trim.

    What do you love most about your inn?

    The spacious but warm and cozy layout and the outside double wrap verandas.

    If someone has never been to your city, what is the #1 reason to come visit?

    Probably for the natural beauty of the lakes and waterfalls along the wine trail.

    What’s the best compliment you have ever received about the inn?

    That I am a superb host and cook paying attention to detail and quality.

    What’s the best kept secret about the area?

    The natural waterfalls that appear all over, specifically Watkins Glen State Park.

    If a traveler is staying at your inn for 4 nights, what should he/she do in the area?

    Visit the Corning Museum of Glass, tour the wineries during special events and wine-tasting, hike natural trails, bicycle around the lakes, attend Watkins Glen auto racing events, attend many seasonal and cultural festivals, boating, fishing, great cafes and restaurants, the Finger Lakes Cheese Trail, microbreweries and distilleries, chamber music and Broadway play venues.

    Is there anything within walking distance of your inn?

    Seneca Lake for a scenic walk or to swim/fish.

    What is your favorite restaurant/food in the area?

    The Red Newt Bistro or the Wildflower Cafe.

    Innkeeper Cathy is passionate about serving you fresh, local fruits, vegetables, grains, herbs, and meats sourced from nearby farm markets and the gardens at 1922 Starkey House.

    Examples of her signature dishes include:

    • Delicate handmade European-style crepes filled with seasonal blueberries, strawberries, apples or cheeses
    • Omelets stuffed with garden fresh tomatoes, herbs and cheeses or portobello mushrooms
    • Organic farm sausages
    • Entree hot cereals made from organically grown grains such as oatmeal, flax, barely and rice cooked with fruits and topped with nuts

    Vegetarian and Vegan or gluten-free requests are provided routinely and are delicious!

    Afternoon snacks may include:

    • Freshly baked cookies
    • Fruit platters
