Vanderbilt Room - Private Bath

$302.00 / $350.00 night

What’s Unique about the Vanderbilt room at The Harbor Rose Bed and Breakfast? Our most elegant room and the only guest room on the first floor with an en-suite bathroom. Queen size bed with a fireplace, and yes, it works! Firelogs are available for $20 each. Vanderbilt Room has its own thermostat-controlled Heat and AC, Flat-screen cable Smart TV, a radio alarm clock/sound machine, and a desk.

The Sights and Sounds: If you have the windows open, you will hear some distant street traffic noise in the evening. We pretend it is ocean waves and a science lesson in the Doppler Effect! You may also enjoy the sounds of nature — crickets in the summer and songbirds, geese, and swans taking flight from the water are quite a sight and sound. Yes, every hour on the hour you will hear the song bells from St. John's Church. If the windows are closed, the room is silent.

The Vanderbilt Room features spectacular winter water views, and through the foliage, water views in spring, summer, and fall. The water views are most enjoyable during the evening sunsets. A rare treat to have sunset views over the water on the east coast of the USA!

Parlor Suite - Private Bath

$302.00 / $350.00 night

Our largest guest room is at the “top of the house” and our guests must be comfortable with stairs. It features a private bath, an antique bedroom set, cable TV, alarm clock radio, a sitting area, writing desk, lovely afternoon sunlight, and plenty of room to dance, do yoga, and cartwheels! There are two windows facing south and one facing east. The east-facing window is located at the end of a dormer-ed alcove and early morning sunlight is blocked by the topography of the hillside.

What’s Unique about The Parlor Suite: Our only guest room with wall to wall carpeting and accommodates up to Three (3) additional guests. We offer one roll away bed (organic memory foam for $30 per night) and two air mattresses ($25 each per night). The beautiful antique bedroom set is complete with a Queen size bed. The Parlor Suite and bath have slanted walls, so if you are a professional basketball player or otherwise very tall, you may be more comfortable in the Victorian Room.

Although we have central air conditioning, this room is supplemented with a window air conditioner in the summer. If you enjoy a very cold room in the summer, the Parlor Suite is a good option.

The Sights and Sounds: You feel like you are in your own private oasis in the Parlor Suite. You will enjoy the pitter-patter of rain on the roof and whether the windows are open or closed, this is a very quiet room.

The Parlor Suite features pretty views on the upper level lawn and the forest behind the house. This room is a good place to spot wildlife on the edge of the woods when gazing out the windows. There are also has limited water views (better in the winter) but you need to be standing by the window!

The Bath: The private bathroom features a skylight and a stall shower (there is no bathtub). The granite vanity features a large mirror and great lighting and space to spread out.

Number of Occupants: This room has enough floor space to comfortably accommodate up to three additional guests.

The Location in the House: Tucked away on the third floor, on the south side of the “top of the house “ with windows facing east and south.

Victorian Room - King bed with Fireplace

$229.00 / $245.00 night

What’s Unique about the Victorian Room: The only guest room with a fireplace and yes it works! Fire logs are available for $15 each. The Victorian room is on the warmer side (by a few degrees) in the winter and the summer, even with the central air conditioning, so if you prefer ocean breezes and open windows when the outdoor temperatures are in the high 70’s and low 80’s, rather than air conditioning, the Victorian Room is a good choice.

The Sights and Sounds: If you have the windows open, you will hear some distant street traffic noise in the evening. We pretend it is ocean waves and a science lesson in the Doppler Effect! You may also enjoy the sounds of nature — crickets in the summer and song birds, geese, and swans taking flight from the water are quite a sight and sound. Yes every hour on the hour you will hear the song bells from St Johns Church.

If the windows are closed, the room is silent.

The Victorian Room features spectacular winter water views and through the foliage, water views in spring, summer, and fall, luxury Sealy mattress, linens and pillows. The water views are most enjoyable during the evening sunsets. A rare treat to have sunset views over the water on the east coast of the USA!

As the sun sets, the harbor becomes golden shimmering like diamonds across the surface of the harbor. At night across the harbor you will see the twinkling lights on a miniature city scape tucked into the hills, complements of Noble Prize Winner, Dr. Watson’s Cold Spring Harbor Labs (who discovered DNA). It’s quite a beautiful sight.

The Bath: This spacious bath features a deep claw foot soaking tub and shower. The shower is shared by the occupant of the Garden Room (only if the Garden Room is occupied during your stay), and the Garden Room has a half bath, so only the shower is shared.

We have never had a shower conflict and somehow, magically, the occupants of the Victorian Room and the Garden Room are traveling together, or they are often on such different schedules they never see each other. We have daily housekeeping, so the bathroom is always clean and fresh, and is tended to twice daily!
