  • Introduction

All of our rooms are tastefully furnished with a slight nod to the Victorian period and tribute to a broader range of other styles and periods.  Rustic Moroccan lanterns and tile tables, a shaker style bed, colonial chairs and end table all blend together with a minimalist's love for open space and air.  All the rooms in the house share an element of serene naturalism and and quiet warmth.  Cozy, yet not cluttered.  Cool to the eye, but rich with woods and earthy textures, giving softness to the rooms.  We have borrowed from our interests in Eastern philosophies of  design to give you the feeling of Victorian comfort without losing the clarity and openness of the rooms, which the Zen philosophers believe brings peace of mind.

All of our rooms feature original 1898 detailing. Original doors, baseboards and window sashes, fireplaces (sealed) and mantles,  quarter-sawn oak parquet flooring, picture rails, original plaster work including original gasliqht  medallions.   Two of the bedrooms still have the  original antique intercom boxes with which the first owners would call their servants!

Each floor has a restored 1920's bathroom, installed when the first owners chose to "modernize" the home with the new miracle of indoor plumbing and electric which was being installed for the first time across New York City starting around 1915.  These antique bathrooms feature breathtaking wraparound subway tiles, an original toilet, built-in shower enclosures with original glass doors from the Brooklyn Shower Door Company and a claw-foot tub on the top floor.  The guest rooms on each floor of our townhouse share a bathroom.  The Fitzgerald and The McManus rooms are on the floor above The Parlor and share one large bathroom.  The Bradley, O'Neal and The Osborne rooms are on the top floor and they share an even larger bathroom with an antique claw-foot tub in additon to the shower enclosure.

Rooms are all equipped with end-tables and reading lights, closets, air-conditioning and Wireless Internet access.  We provide fresh linens and towels and we offer a sumptuous breakfast every morning in The Parlor (optional at $10 per person).  For details, click here:   A Brooklyn Breakfast

Fresh coffee, fine teas, orange juice (not from concentrate) and a tower full of fresh sliced fruit are just standard every morning.  We pride ourselves in brewing fresh-ground gourmet coffee every morning and serve it with a variety of natural sweeteners and organic milk and cream. Usually accompanied by a variety of cereals, yogurt, dried fruit, granola, fresh baked biscuits and muffins, sometimes hard-boiled eggs or omelettes or even our famous oatmeal or French Toast, only served with 100% pure maple syrup. We often cook pancakes as well, fresh off the griddle for all the guests!  Always served with fresh banana slices and seasonal berries and plenty of syrup and jams and other spreads.  Or we may serve fresh-baked muffins chock-full of nuts, fruit and goodies!

Our Parlor is open to all guests from 8:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. for quiet enjoyment and features ten-foot ceilings, two seven-foot windows and original Maple mill- work and trim.   An original Arts & Crafts chandelier shines in the front foyer lighting up the enormous built-in beveled mirror framed in decorative Maple.

Please feel free to browse and borrow from our expansive library or play a board game, or just relax and read after breakfast or in the evening.  A computer with internet access is available for a modest fee.
