Nido is Spanish for a "nest or abode". An adobe is a sun-dried mud brick, which is what our home is made of, hence the name - Adobe Nido. Our original nido (built in 1985) and our new nidos, are all created in the old style of the southwest - adobe construction with kiva fireplaces, exposed adobe bricks, exposed beams, banco seats, and flagstone walkways. Our main house is the hub of activity containing main lobby, dining hall, kitchen as well as our quarters. The 2-story guest house next door is just a short walk from the dining area, (really short...five or six paces) past the aviary. It houses two beautiful guest rooms, and the family suite. Out back, you may relax under a covered outdoor patio.
Our grounds include raised bed vegetable and herb gardens, flagstone paths, southwest xeriscape, an aviary, outdoor banco sitting areas and patios, a sounding pond and a fish pond with waterfall, and an outdoor Finnish dry heat sauna.
We celebrated our 8th year in the bed and breakfast business this March, (2008), and are happy to report that we are still loving it. Rol came from a backgound in the semi-conductor industry, and Sarah had been in printing and graphic arts for over 25 years. We are much happier doing what we do now. We have found that the next best thing to traveling ourselves is having travelers stay with us.
