More than 900 inns participated in the WVBBA program B&Bs For Vets 14 Dec 2010, 1:32 pmThe 900 inns, representing 2,700 donated rooms, are participating in the brand new program started this past summer by Kathleen Panek, innkeeper of Gillum House in W.V.
A plethora of publicity has materialized and some inns reported having their rooms claimed within 3 days of joining the program. At an average of $125 per room, this represents more than $325,000.00 of revenue donated to active members of the military or veterans who served previously. Most of the inns are already planning to repeat the program in 2011.
One of the earliest responses Panek received about the program was:
"Ms. Panek, Thank you for your thoughtful gift to veterans on Veterans Day. My wife and I usually stay in pretty upscale hotels when we travel, but because of your kindness to my fellow veterans, we are going to start looking at B&B's. I hope many people do."
What a lovely group of guests ….It was such a pleasure to host our Vets at the White Lilac Inn and although they thanked us…We really were glad to have a way to thank them for their service!
There was a young engaged couple who met in the Navy… some retirees (young retirees that is) It was definitely something we would hope to do again.
We may have to bring back our themed room “Hail to the Troops” that was decorated with memorabilia and of course red white and blue color scheme.
The overwhelming response from the military and veterans was, "thank you for thinking of us."
