  • Insider's Info

Travelers are always looking for memorable and relaxing experiences. Let’s discover more through the words of our innkeepers. Many thanks to Frederique & Thierry Procyk for sharing their own secrets with!
Why do most travelers stay at your inn?

They read our good reviews on Tripadvisor and want to experience our breakfast and our hospitality that our previous guests are raving about. We also welcome lots of first goers to a bed and breakfast who want to try this experience, but want to eat a cooked-to-order breakfast. Finally, we also have lots of guests who used to stay at bed and breakfasts before having a family and are thrilled to be able to stay at a bed and breakfast with their kids (we are kid friendly). But mostly, we offer a lot of amenities for a small price.

What are you best known for? What makes your inn unique? What do you love most about your inn?

I think we are best known for our cooked-to-order breakfast and for our unique location in the North Conway area: while most of the lodgings are along the main road, we are tucked away from the traffic in a very quiet residential area. They love the fact that they can have a peaceful night of sleep away from any traffic noise. We fell in love with Cranmore Mountain Lodge because of the grounds and the location: it’s perfect to raise our family; we have a generous owner’s quarter with a private deck where we can barbecue while talking to our guests having a drink on our dining room deck. It’s everything we’ve ever dreamed of: a pond stocked with trout (we fish in the afternoon for fresh trout on the barbecue in the evening), we have hiking trails directly from our backyard where our dog can run free.

If someone has never been to your city, what is the #1 reason to come visit?

North Conway is a typical New England little town with lots of unique restaurants and tax-free shopping and ideally located to visit the White Mountains of New Hampshire, whether it is to climb up Mt Washington, drive the most scenic roads of NH (the Kancamagus Highway and Route 302), or for outdoor adventures such as kayaking, hiking, rock/ice climbing, skiing.

What’s the best compliment you have ever received about the inn?

There are two compliments I remember the most: one is about our breakfast, saying that “In Heaven Angels float on your pancakes”. The other one simply saying “Please do not change anything, continue the good work. Everything was absolutely perfect”

What’s the best kept secret about the area?

It’s not yet in area guides, but for those who just checked in mid or end of the afternoon and want to do something before dinner other than shopping, we always send them to stretch their legs on the Diana’s Bath trail, just 1 mile walk to reach a series of beautiful waterfalls (where one can bathe), and then drive up Cathedrale Ledge, right next to it, where they can have a great view of the valley.

If a traveler is staying at your inn for 4 nights, what should he/she do in the area?

One day should definitely be spent going up Mt Washington, whether by driving their own car or taking the Cog, even if the weather is less than perfect. It’s worth it summer or winter (in winter they can take a guided coach that goes up the tree line).

One day should be spent doing the “scenic loop” that lasts about 5 hours to do without stops, and many stops are on the way to learn about the formation of the White Mountains, seeing beautiful waterfalls, swimming in holes, doing little hikes, taking pictures of the wild life.

One day should be spent visiting the unique shops in downtown north Conway village and the outlet stores, as well as taking the Conway Scenic train and possibly do the 5 hour ride of the “Notch Train” retracing the trip Boston business men used to do when they were going in their summer homes a hundred years ago.

One day should be dedicated to a bit of adventure : whether it is a horseback ride on the mountain, some kayaking or canoeing, some ziplining at one of the attraction parks, or simply hike one of the many trails in the White Mountains.

Is there anything within walking distance of your inn?

Hiking trails are within walking distance of our inn. We also have unmarked cross-country skiing trails right at our doorway, as well as Whitaker woods (walking trails to downtown in summer, and groomed x-country trails in winter). Our guests can also fly fish directly in our pond without any permit, and it’s a delight to see younger guests playing in the brook.

What is your favorite restaurant/food in the area?

We have so many restaurants; it is hard to choose from. For a light lunch, we always choose Horsefeather’s (a landmark here for at least 37 years). For fine dining, we always send our guests to the 1785 Restaurant: this is where we go for our own anniversary. For a unique experience with local food and dining possibly with no kids around, Maestro’s Italian Restaurant is the one we refer to. For the best steak in town and entertainment, that would be the Red Parka Steakhouse and Pub (they’ve been there for 40 years). And finally to experience a totally local food/cuisine, we send most of our guests to Moat Mountain Smokehouse and Brewery: the food is delicious and they make their own beer. All these restaurants belong to the Valley Originals, a group of locally owned and operated restaurants offering farm to the table food.

Any good area guides/websites that travelers could reference?

Even though the website is a bit hard to browse, the Mt Washington Valley Chamber of Commerce is where you would find the most information about our area, including great itineraries translated in several languages. The website is

How many rooms does your inn have?

We have 16 rooms and 4 suites. Even though we are a big bed & breakfast, we mostly do it all by ourselves, from cooking to front desk to webmaster. We have a few part time employees to serve breakfast (we sometimes have to cook 50 breakfasts in the morning and can’t cook and serve) and clean the rooms. We are the ground keepers as well and take care of our gardens.

    Do you accept pets?

We have 1 room and 3 suites accepting dogs ( but we are strict about our conditions. The dog cannot stay alone in the room for example if not crated. In the case the dog cannot be crated or our guests feel they cannot follow our conditions or want to choose to stay in another non dog-friendly room, we have a great 5 star hotel just for pets in town called Karla’s Pets Rendez-vous, who offer preferred rates for those guests staying in area hotels.

    Cranmore Mountain Lodge, Halloween

Frederique & Thierry, with their daughter Claire

Cranmore Mountain Lodge was purchased in November 2006 by Thierry & Frederique Procyk, and their 3 children : Antoine, Guillaume and Claire.

In 1996, Frederique & Thierry moved from France to New Jersey, with their two sons, Antoine 5 and Guillaume 3. Frederique was a homemaker and a former clinical research assistant , and Thierry was a physician working in Competitive Intelligence in the pharmaceutical industry. In 2001, the family welcomed a third child: Claire Elena. Shortly after Claire's birth, Frederique started working for a daycare/preschool. She went back to school to fully study Early Childhood Education, got her national degree and opened her own little daycare/preschool called "Little Hands Around the World", that ran successfully for about 1 year.

After many merges and changes in Thierry's Department, they decided it was time to move on: Thierry was laid off and went back to school to study Hotel Management, to follow a long time dream : owning and operating a Bed & Breakfast. In August 2006, they discovered Cranmore Mountain Lodge and fell in love with the beautiful place and setting. Within 3 months, Frederique closed the preschool, they sold the house, and they moved to New Hampshire with kids, their dog Blackie and furniture!

We look forward to welcoming you in our home and family!

  • Things to Do in the White Mountains

    Cranmore Mountain Lodge, blue sky

The North Conway / Conway area has the largest concentration of tax-free shopping, unique restaurants (lots of them offering a gluten free option), and recreational facilities in the White Mountains.

North Conway is home to the Conway Scenic Railroad and its beautifully restored Victorian Station, which was built in 1874. Taking the scenic train is a wonderful way to visit the Mt Washington Valley. The Conway Scenic Railroad welcomes also Thomas the Tank Engine , the Polar Express Event, The Pumpkin Patch Express, Santa's Holiday Express, and more.

Adjacent to the railroad station is the 18-hole North Conway Country Golf Club. With 8 other golf clubs in the Mt Washington Valley, including Hale's Location , you have plenty of choices to enjoy your favorite sport. And for little ones and their whole family, mini-golfing is also an option at the Pirates' Cove Adventure Golf.

Family or romantic carriage rides and horseback riding are available year round. Kayaking or canoeing along the Saco River is one of families' favorites.

If you rather love artistic activities, the attractions in this area are many: an in-town summer repertory theatre, proposing you all summer long broadway musicals, a community theatre with year round quality dramas & comedies, summer concerts in Schouler Park in the center of North Conway, an Aerial Adventure Park, mountain coaster and more on Cranmore Mountain, and more.

    Cranmore Mountain Lodge, forest view

Of course, North Conway Village is also famous for its tax-free outlet stores at Settlers' Green Village along Route 16, but also its wonderful downtown with little shops such as Zeb's Country store, The penguin and more. Shopping is a must when you stay in the Valley!

To the West are White Horse and Cathedral Ledges, both favorites with rock climbers. A seasonal road goes to the top of Cathedral Ledge where there's a great view of the valley below. At the Ledge's base, Echo Lake State Park offers a sandy beach and a picnic area. The North-South Road paralleles Route 16 from North Conway Village to Route 302 in Redstone, offering views of Pudding Pond, woods and fields along the way. It can be accessed directly from Kearsarge Road, where the Cranmore Mountain Lodge sits.

Just South of Conway, Route 16 intersects the Kancamagus Highway, which runs for 34 1/2 miles from Conway to Lincoln, which is one of the most spectacular sections of the White Mountains Trail. It traverses the White Mountain National Forest, crosses the flank of Mt. Kancagamus and climbs to nearly 3,000 feet, providing dramatic views. Along its length are hiking trails, federally designated scenic areas and some stunning overlooks.

Cranmore Mountain Lodge, mountain viewThe White Mountains offers also so many waterfalls to discover, whether along Route 302 or the Kancamagus, or surprising you along a hiking trail, as well as a dozen of covered bridges to spot within an afternoon drive and of course, don't forget our yearly events, the March Maple Madness Inn-to-Inn Tour and the Ghost & Goblin Inn-to-Inn Tour.

    Are you travelling with children?

No matter their age, there are so many interesting activities to do, just minutes away from Cranmore Mountain Lodge.

Storyland is of course an enchantement for every child and is just 15 minutes away from us. They now have a real circus with several shows every day! It opens usually for Memorial Weekend until Columbus Day (only weekends starting Labor Day).

You can also try Santa's Village, just 45 minutes from North Conway Village. Visit Remick Country Doctor Museum and Farm, a living historic farm, with exhibits that change with the season so there is always something new for the curious of every age to discover.

In Summer also, kids of all age can enjoy the Aerial Adventure Park with a mountain coaster, giant swing, summer tubing, Bungy trampoline, disc golf and more at Cranmore Mountain, only 1 mile from us.

Hiking with children can be a challenge, except when you choose the right hikes! Try Black Cap Mountain, just a short drive from us, that offers scenic views of all the Valley. Diana's Bath is also a very popular hike among families. After a short walk of about a mile (that can easily be done with a stroller), the children will be rewarded by a series of wonderful falls and swimming holes.

Cranmore Mountain Lodge, merry go 'roundWhen the weather is not so good, you can try the Children's Museum , just 5 minutes away, or the Hartmann Model Railroad & Toy Museum (see below for other ideas of activities for rainy days).
