Be Kind Festival North Conway 2013 2 Apr 2013, 11:08 am
May 17 to 19, 2013
The Mount Washington Valley is fast becoming the Kindness Capital of New England! That’s great news, because according to The Kindness Center, kindness is the secret to happiness. This year, the weekend BEFORE Memorial Day weekend, (Victoria Day Weekend or Patriot’s Day in Canada), locals and visitors alike will be soaking up the kindness message as well as inflicting random acts of kindness on our community.
Friday evening May 17, 2013: free keynote lecture by returning best selling author and speaker Michael J. Chase, founder of The Kindness Center. Michael has a brand new book out this year to share as well! After the lecture at Kennett’s Loynd Auditorium, we’ll gather under The Kindness Tent in Schouler Park for Good Vibes Coffee and Dessert and enjoy the Candlelit Labyrinth sponsored by I am Grateful to You.
Saturday morning, May 18, 2013 : gather in N. Conway Village for inspiration and collect the tools of the kindness trade before fanning out to the community to commit all sorts of kindness on unsuspecting strangers. So don’t be surprised if a stranger hands you a smiley face balloon, pumps your gas or pays for your coffee while you’re standing in line.
Throughout the day, the labyrinth will be open, and we’ll enjoy free massages, free blood pressure screenings by the visiting nurses, a 150 foot canvas of kind art, free crafts for the kids with The Artery, hugs from the White Mountain Community Health Center Teen Clinic, and more kind fun in the park. At 11am Saturday, join a free, special presentation about life in the alpine zone - created just for this festival, at MW Observatory Weather Discovery Center. From 10am – 2pm Saturday, the White Mountain Waldorf School is running their amazing annual May Faire event next door at the N. Conway Community Center!
Saturday afternoon, May 18, 2013, enjoy a very fun and motivational presentation by Nancy Sporborg & Pat Piper, authors of “It’s Not About the Hike”. Saturday evening will begin with an inter-faith service and a Butterfly Release as a service of our local hospice nurses. Saturday evening will close with a live concert in the park featuring Motor Booty Affair sponsored by Mount Washington Radio Group.
Sunday Morning, May 19, 2013, join Herbalist Heather Chase on an educational and really interesting walk from The Local Grocer, into the woods and fields to identiy edible and healing plants we can find everyday. Then, it’s off to Cranmore Mountain Resort for a FREE fun day on the Mountain Coaster, Giant Swing and Soaring Eagle Zip Line from 10am-4pm!

Dress Code :
Casual Elegant – For him, it could be a dark suit or a button down with trousers, made complete by a sport coat. For her, a formal pants outfit, or a snazzy black dress complemented by an evening wrap or clutch bag would be perfect for such a grand scene. Both women and men will find turtlenecks, darker colors, and leather shoes to be universally acepted as supplements to casual elegant outfits.
Elegant will require more flare, especially for women. You may want to bring out some of the finer jewelry, bolder makeup, and date to show more skin. Men can don the smoother ties, cufflinks, and may want to wear a black and blue suit before selecting a gray or tan one.
Formal – Those exquisite dresses and tuxedos are considered formal attire. The formal standard demands patrons to wear their best, with women in ravishing dresses and men in suits. Formal wear can even go a step above and befall black tie invitations, which call for men to wear tuxedos, and women to wear cocktail or long dresses, or modish, dressy evening separates.
