Food & Film Festival – April 28, 2012 6 Apr 2012, 11:49 am

Food & Film Festival at Kennett High School
Saturday April 28, 2012 – 10 am to 3 pm

Film viewings will be at 10 am, 12:30 am and 3 pm.

Exhibits and demonstrations will be open from 10 am until 3 pm.

Each film will be followed by a moderated panel discussion where attenders can ask questions and discuss information learned. The movies present evidence of the decline in American health and the rise in American incidences of obesity. Health related demonstrations will be lining the entryway and foyer of the High School so that people can learn a variety of health enhancing nutritional approaches. The Local Grocer will be teaching attenders about the value of fermenting foods and demonstrating the methods used. The Local Grocer will also be teaching about the nutritional value of sprouted seeds and grains and giving attenders a chance to learn how easy it is to do this at home. Educational materials about the symptoms of Celiac disease will be provided as well as gluten free gourmet samples from nearby Raffery’s Restaurant. Nutritious snack recipes and samples for kids will be provided by the White Mountain Waldorf School. Health students from Kennett Middle School will be there to provide information on the new dietary recommendations that has now replaced the previous food pyramid. Participants can sample and taste local and health promoting foods and buy lunch provided by Kennett High School’s Culinary Arts Club.

These films also focus on the environmental impacts of our current agriculture system and the blossoming organic and sustainable farming movement. Community supported agriculture farms will be there to share their experiences and sell some of their produce. Non profit organizations that promote environmental awareness and local farming will be exhibiting and educating visitors about their mission. Farms will be there selling their local produce, meat and airy products giving visitors a chance to meet the people who are changing the face of farming right here in our Mt Washington Valley.
