Travelers are always looking for memorable and relaxing experiences. Let’s discover more through the words of our innkeepers. Many thanks to Conrad Yates for sharing his own secrets with BBOnline.com! Why do most travelers stay at your inn?
Most Yates House guests are here for Romantic Getaways or short vacation stays.
What are you best known for? What makes your inn unique? What do you love most about your inn?
We are best known for our food, high quality and clean lodging, and excellent hospitality. Our Inn is unique because it is located in Rocheport--one of America's Ten Coolest Small Towns (Frommer's Budget Travel Guide). Rocheport is a very small (pop. 239), historic town that is well preserved, beautiful, and a wonderful place to visit or live. My favorite thing about the Inn is to stand on the front porch and look at the wonderful Norman Rockwell neighborhood around us.
If someone has never been to your city, what is the #1 reason to come visit?
To experience something totally different from where you come from. Goods and services in Rocheport are high quality--lodging, restaurants, and shops, and they are close by. Close by means a short walking distance. We also have the prettiest section of the cross state hiking and biking trail, Katy Trail State Park. And, Les Bourgeois Winery, Missouri's third largest winery with restaurant located on a bluff 120 feet above the Missouri River and valley.
What’s the best compliment you have ever received about the inn?
"We don't want to leave.." And we hear it all the time.
What’s the best kept secret about the area?
The Katy Trail Tunnel. It is located a few blocks from here and is the only tunnel on the entire Katy Railroad system from Texas to Missouri.
If a traveler is staying at your inn for 4 nights, what should he/she do in the area?
Four days is kind of a stretch for here. We have enough for two great days. Hike or Bike the Katy Trail State Park along the most scenic section of the cross-state trail. Visit our small shops for gifts, antiques, and fine art. Visit and tour Les Bourgeois Vineyards, the third largest winery in Missouri. Dine at two very good local restaurants: Les Bourgeois Bistro and Abigail's. Visit nearby Warm Springs Ranch. This is an Anheuser-Busch property where all their beautiful Clydesdale horses are bred and born. The past two Superbowl's featured A-B advertising with Clydesdale colts filmed at this farm. Spend some time on the Yates House patio with your favorite person and a bottle of wine.
Is there anything within walking distance of your inn?
Nearly everything is within walking distance of our inn. Shops, Abigail's Restaurant, General Store (Rocheport's guest friendly bar with excellent live music on weekend nights) and the Katy Trail State Park are all within two blocks of Yates House. Les Bourgeois Winery and Bistro are about one mile away by Katy Trail along the beautiful banks of the Missouri River and five minutes by car. Warm Springs Ranch (Clydesdales) is a ten minute drive away.
What is your favorite restaurant/food in the area?
We are fortunate to have two excellent restaurants nearby and can never decide which our favorite is. Abigail's (two block walk) has a creative and ever changing locally sourced and seasonally fresh menu. Their wine list is excellent. They were awarded Southern Living Magazine's Staff Favorite Issue "Best Dessert" Award a few years ago. Prices are moderate--shockingly low for those accustomed to city dining.
Les Bourgeois Bistro also has great food and specializes in locally sourced, seasonally fresh products. Their wine list is their own products. The restaurant setting is quite beautiful, high on the bluffs overlooking the Missouri River and valley. This has been voted by Mid-Missourians the "Best Place to Take a Date or An out of Town Guest" in Central Missouri. Prices are moderate and, again, are shockingly low to those accustomed to city dining .
Any good area guides/websites that travelers could reference? How many rooms does your inn have?
Do you accept pets?
No pets, please. http://www.allcreaturescolumbia.com/boarding.html for pet boarding.
Select Registry Affiliation
Our affiliation with Select Registry, Distinguished Inns of North America is one of our proudest achievements. This designation as a Select Registry property is your assurance that Yates House Bed & Breakfast in Rocheport, Missouri has been selected as among the most comfortable and welcoming—unique and quality assured lodging alternatives in an increasingly cluttered and impersonal travel marketplace.
In the late 1960’s, a travel writer named Norman Simpson had an interesting idea. He drove throughout North America and identified unique places that offered what he called, "good honest lodging, good honest food, and good honest feeling." Hailed as "the Father of Country Inn Travel", Simpson—through his pioneering book, Country Inns and Back Roads—introduced an entirely new type of lodging experience to the traveling public. Today, this association of independent innkeepers started by Norman Simpson includes nearly 400 of the "finest country inns, luxury B&B’s and unique small hotels" from California to Nova Scotia.
Select Registry properties must measure up. We are regularly evaluated by independent inspectors against a stringent quality assurance program which judges high standards of lodging, food, and hospitality. You may rely on us to provide the highest quality in each of these important areas.
Our goal will always be to provide excellent lodging, food, and hospitality. We want to be among the "best of the best" and exceed your loftiest travel expectations.

Yates House Cooking Classes
Today, television provides cooking classes to the public nearly 24 hours each day. Of course, these classes are observational. Learning to perform the tasks of cooking by doing them "hands-on" is impossible. As is sitting down and enjoying food product of the class.
Yates House classes have always been participatory, hands-on affairs where small numbers of students prepare the menu under the guidance of Dixie Yates. Class members always eat. Full-meal classes are seated and served by Dixie and Conrad Yates.
We arrange "Hands On" classes specifically for your group of two to six participants. Dixie will work with you to design an experience that meets your unique needs. Skill levels, interests/preferences, and time constraints matter for successful Cooking Class presentations. Classes are custom designed by Dixie Yates. Email inquiries to Dixie at firstname.lastname@example.org and she will work with you to arrange a class that will perfectly suit your group's needs. Please include information about your interests, skill levels, time constraints, and requested class dates.
Cooking Class Pricing
Prices vary according to Class Size, Food Prices, Time Spent (planning, preparing, class time), and price of guest room selected during your Yates House stay. Prices start at $100/person plus cost of Yates House room selected.
Dixie's Kitchen and Event Catering
In addition to bed and breakfast accommodations, Yates House also offers Missouri catering services. A kitchen and dining addition to the Garden House provides space for Dixie's Kitchen and Sun Room where award-winning breakfasts are served and small catered events, meetings, and cooking classes are held.
Dixie's gourmet kitchen is a well-known source of excellent food. The freshest ingredients she can find, including locally grown produce, eggs, cheese, meats, and herbs from her own gardens are used to create wonderful dishes you will never forget. Your meals are prepared at the Garden House and are not "off the truck", a pejorative which describes much pre-prepared food served by restaurants or caterers.
Let Yates House Cater Your Event
Our comfortable meeting facility will serve small groups up to twenty-six. We customize your menu to provide exactly the food you want without adding extras you don't want.
