The ceilings on the first floor are antique patterned tin sheets which have been restored and painted peony white. The original oak and pine floors have recently been refurbished.

The parlor invites you to sit and unwind. Comfortable chairs and reading lamps are placed so that you can enjoy the antique mantle (circa 1904) which has been added to the room. Bookshelves flank the sides. In the bay window sets a table which has an ongoing puzzle. Perhaps you will sit there for the evening or just fill in a piece or two on your way to breakfast.

 Enjoy the many area attractions, such as Ft. Davidson, Elephant Rocks, Taum Sauk Mountain,
Johnson's Shut-Ins, Black River float trips and the Ozark Trail.

The surrounding grounds are filled with treasures waiting to be discovered. The spacious front porch has Adirondack chairs; lean back, close your eyes -- relax. Watch the birds play in the bird bath or enjoy the many Hosta varieties planted in the front yard. Other perennials and seasonal annuals provide a colorful landscape. Follow the path to the side yard; linger at the gazebo; enjoy the sun garden plantings as well as the other flowers and shrubs. The gazebo makes the perfect backdrop for a small wedding; or renew your vows.

Proceed further, to one of two patios. The one has a glider where you can sit and hold hands, overlooking the creek. Or on a chilly night, be mesmerized by the flames in the fire. Join fellow guests by the firepit to talk about the happenings of your day or your plans for tomorrow. A hot tub awaits you. During the day you can view the wildlife at the creek. And by night you can experience the romance of gazing at the stars with your special someone. Reserve a private hour for just the two of you. Follow the path to the creek. Walk along the edge and listen to it bubble or take off your shoes and enjoy the refreshing waters. For some fun in the sun, lay out by the pool or take a dip!

To Find Ironton- Arcadia area from St. Louis or Farmington, MO: Take I-55 south about 22 miles (from I-270) to Exit 174B. Take US-67 south about 35.5 miles past Bonne Terre and Park Hills to Hwy 221 (1 mile south of MO-32 Farmington, MO exit). Turn right (west) on Hwy 221 about 16.5 miles to MO-21. To find Plain & Fancy from the Arcadia Valley: Take MO-21 south about 2 miles south from Pilot Knob to MO-72 junction. Take MO-72 east; you will pass Hwy JJ about 1.5 miles out. Continue another 0.5 miles east on MO-72. All check-ins at Plain & Fancy House Bed & Breakfast.
