Known as the most expensive bed in Missouri that you can sleep on, you will be surrounded by many beautiful period pieces. Your surroundings will nestle you to a peaceful sleep. This was Helen Garth's room originally, as it had the largest closet and did have a door to his room (now Avie's Room). Contains three nine-foot windows facing the woods and the front of the mansion. Named after John's Great Aunt Avie, this large room is the brightest bedroom in the mansion. This room sets the stage for romance with its pastel blue and white. The morning sun filters through the lace curtains. A laced full canopy floats over your queen-sized feather bed hung from the 12 foot high ceiling. The room has a private bath with shower. The remote controlled fireplace features the original Carrera marble. This room was originally John Garth's room; it adjoined the Rosewood Room years ago. Second floor. $195 per night

An often requested room is the guest room in which Mark Twain stayed. Anytime Mark Twain (Samuel Clemens) came to visit Hannibal since he had moved out at 18, he would stay at the Garth Mansion in this very room. There are three ten-foot windows, one with a front view, and two on the garden side. An exquisite queen-size, half-tester bed wraps you in luxurious comfort. View the front lawn and gardens while looking out your room's windows, with the original panes of glass. This room has a private bath with shower. This stately Master Bedroom suite hosts the original furniture to John Garth. A grand sized queen bed with a hand carved headboard over 10 feet tall. The original Carrera Marble fireplace now burns gas instead of the coal once required (remote controlled). Often referred to as a honeymoon or anniversary suite, this bedroom features a beautiful custom made two-person whirlpool jetted tub. You will notice the design emulates the 2nd story veranda to keep in touch with the motif.

Like all of our rooms, the John Garth room has a private bath with a shower. This is the largest room in the mansion. Overlooking the flower gardens and into the woods, you always have a beautiful view through the three 10 foot original-paned glass windows. It is pretty cool to see the deer eating at dusk and dawn from your windows. The llamas do not seem to care if they are there. Second floor room. $245 per night

If you are searching for a Missouri vacation rental, consider one of two recently erected cottages on the Garth Mansion Estate...The Woodside View and the Woodside Trail. Each new cottage is a private building: The Woodside View's interior is decorated in shades of red, while the Woodside Trail's interior is done in shades of gold. The Woodside Trail cottage is nestled a little farther into our woods. Both of these romantic cottages feature a queen sized hypoallergenic feather bed. The back door off of the bedroom leads to a private deck with a wonderfully large Hot Springs Tub. The water is always hot and ready for you to slide in and enjoy the awaiting water therapy. The cottages also provide several large fluffy spa towels to wrap around you. On the outside wall, speakers connected to the compact disc player inside allow you to relax in the hot tub while listening to the music of your choice. There are also snacks in the cupboards.

The wet bar has a perfect sized refrigerator with sodas and bottled water. The convenient remote controlled fireplace can be seen from both sides of the sitting room and the bedroom. Provided also is a microwave to reheat your tea or pop some of our popcorn to eat while watching a flick. There is a flat screen television in the living room and the bedroom with a compact disc player, tuner, and digital videodisc player. Wonderfully comfortable glider chairs give you great seats when you finally decide on a DVD to watch, for there are hundreds to choose from! If you decide to watch a movie in bed, that is fine, too. ...Normal amenities prevail... As with the rest of the property, there is a two-night minimum on each weekend and holidays. The Woodside View Cottage has a maximum occupancy of 5 guests. This is utilizing both queen sized feather beds, and a roll-a-way bed. Each cottage features a Murphy style bed that folds up out of the way when not in use. The Murphy bed is a queen sized feather bed. The Woodside Trail Cottage has a maximum guest occupancy of 7. An occupancy of 7 utilizes both queen sized feather beds, a roll-a-way bed, and the lower level apartment. The lower level apartment is only rented when the occupancy is beyond 5 guests.

Rates: Our rate we are displaying here are the lowest rates we can offer you in these economic times. Many inns raise their rates 8-10% each year and we have the same rates we had since 2008. We are offering you dinner at no charge with the Modified American Plan to incentivize you to stay with us. If you cannot arrive in time for dinner that is no problem. Since we are not charging you for this in the first place, we would just like to know if you plan on having dinner on your arrival night.

Julie and John Rolsen wanted to build a secluded cottage that would offer the ultimate in romance and privacy to guests of Garth Woodside Mansion desiring a romantic Missouri vacation. Their dream was to include absolutely everything anyone might ever want for a very special and intimate romantic getaway or honeymoon. Not a detail was overlooked in this Hannibal MO cabin, and none of the special touches they knew their guests sought were spared. What resulted was the spectacular, three-story stone Dowager House, now offering the perfect refuge for romance. This is most definitely the most luxurious and romantic of Hannibal MO cabins.

What did it take for Garth Woodside Mansion to create an extremely romantic setting?

Fireplaces: Look for not just one, but two. Guests can turn on one fireplace for the double whirlpool tub in the bath, and the remote one for the bedroom, while lying in bed. The bedroom fireplace has a beautiful window over it, allowing one to view the stars over the fireplace at night. This was an influence from Mark Twain’s private study in his home in Hartford, CT. He wanted to be able to see outdoors and have the snowflakes appearing to fall onto his fire; great idea as it works just as well all these years later with a gas fireplace.

Whirlpool and Hot Tubs: Again, the Rolsens knew their guests looking for the ultimate in romance would want the double whirlpool tub in the bath, but they didn’t stop there. There is also a wonderful Hot Springs Hot Tub on this Hannibal MO cottage’s private deck, overlooking the pond.

Luxurious Linens and Baths: The enormous king-sized bed sports 1200, yes, twelve hundred, thread count linens. For those who don’t know about thread counts, this feels like the ultimate in satiny sheets. The bathroom offers a ten by four-and-a-half foot shower with eleven showerheads, including ones that rain down from the top. Technically, this should count as a whirlpool tub, as it’s ultimately a vertical whirlpool. There are two sinks, and lest you think the Rolsens forgot anything, one is taller than the other, to offer something for the tall and something for the shorter guests. Finally, there is a bidet in the water closet, and a towel warmer rounds out the offerings here.

• Because there are so many sights and shops for you to enjoy, many of our guests stay more than one night. We do require a two-night minimum on weekends and most holidays.
• We charge your credit for your entire stay at the time the reservation is made, (rare exceptions made).
• Reservation and Cancellation Policy: You agree that if you do not wish to use a credit card as a method of payment when making a reservation, you will provide a credit card number to hold the reservation on. You must send a check in the mail and until such check clears at the bank, we will use your credit card to hold your reservation. If your check is unacceptable for funds, we will use your credit card and charge an additional US $25 for returned checks. You also agree that we will treat all reservations as if they were taken with a full deposit. If your card was not charged in full at the time the reservation was made, all canceled or changed reservations will be treated as if a full deposit was made. There is a US $35.00 administration fee per room for any cancellation or changes. Cancellations within 15 days of the reservation date will receive a gift certificate valued at one half (50%) of the total reservation -minus the administration fee- for use within a year of the reservation. If we are able to rebook your room to another guest, we will provide a refund, less the US$ 35.00 administration fee. Cancellations made less than 36hours of the reservation check-in time will receive no refund. You will be charged the full amount if you have not already paid in full for your reservation.
• Children over 8 years old are best suited for the mansion.
• The mansion, cottages, and Dowager House are smoke-free.
• Air conditioners are not window units. Each of our Hannibal Mo lodging rooms has a thermostat to control its own zone.
• Fireplaces are active only November - February. In March and October they are active when the temp outside falls below our minimum.
• Extra linens, towels, and pillows are available in room and/or upon request.
• Cookies usually come out of the oven around 4:00 pm (check-in time).
• The MAP Plan stands for the Modified American Plan. This means that breakfast and dinner are both served/included with your Hannibal MO lodging. You may upgrade to the MAP plan in advance for $20 per couple. The MAP plan does not include alcohol, or gratuity. The MAP plan cannot be used in conjunction with other specials and offers.
• Pets are permitted only in the cottages. Pets must be in a kennel at all times when inside. Please contact us for our current pet policy.
